No other club would have been as patient as we have been with Reid. Basically plays every other year.

I can't see how port can get a deal done, unless they trade out a player. And with radegalea coming in, that makes it even harder. It's a port dream.
If Dursma is on the table then they have more then enough up their sleeve

Id say Ports deal with Grundy would hinge more on Melb paying some of his wage more then what ours would

Happy with Mckay, but 600k longterm is all he is worth, With the AFL itching to help out North, id say that would give him the compo pick they want

Agree with you on the 600K, but also accept that the deal could be front loaded to get it done

Loyal, one club, 181 game premiership player. Has contributed loads and hasn't taken huge $$ costing us players.

No issue with us having been patient.

Not questioning his character, loyalty and ability. He is not sound physically and hasn't been for some time. If he has taken unders, that's admirable but he has only played around 60% of the games we have been involved in since he was on our list.

It was fascinating listening to McRae last night after the game waxing lyrical about Graham Wright targeting very specific players to make the team better. McRae went out of his way to praise McStay, Hill and Mitchell last night.

Targeted skill sets and roles…….that were missing from the Pies team despite coming top4 last season…….interesting approach to compliment some serious drafted players last few years.

7 of their targeted traded in players were very strong last night

I have a hunch that the AFL may choose to waive the compo pick requirements and give North what they want (and IMO they need) despite the requirements not being met. The AFL has discretion to change the pick outcome, so the AFL could state that if McKay leaves, North get a first-round compo pick.

Gold Coast got a lot more help than North Melbourne: a first-round pick, a middle of first round pick, a start of second-round pick, various draft concessions. All North has got so far are second-round and third-round draft picks that they weren't even allowed to use except as trades. More help for North is likely.

Another remark about the compo picks: player age is a factor in determining the picks in addition to the salary. So a salary of $800K for a 29-year-old player earns less in pick value than the same salary for a 25-year-old player.

A North Melbourne fan on Facebook sums up Dyl:

"Cal Twomey is reporting that North Melbourne is in the 'box seat' to land Swans Young Gun Dylan Stephens
Stephens has had a contract offer Infront of him at the Swans all year and has opted to not sign it and assess his options
A smooth moving midfielder/wingman with a clean left boot and big tank, he will add some much needed run off half back/on the wing and clean delivery inside 50"

I think that summary is partly true

Ie Dyl can still evolve his baseline of skill sets but his game awareness and execution is behind a few others at the Swans which is keeping him out of our best 22 when all available

which also means we probably can’t match a team on the rebuild……..if he wants to go to a club on the rebuild?

It's all good in hindsight, but would we have picked up any of those 3 if they expressed interest in the swans.?
Mitchell - no, burnt bridges, and too old and slow.
Hill - not far off being delisted by GWS, so the surprise packet of the group.
McStay - no better than McLean, Amartey on paper.

He wants game time. I can’t see him getting regular games with us anytime soon - who would he replace in our team?

If NM are offering more game time, even as regular sub, it is a no-brainer. Tarryn Thomas is a free agent at the end of next year so that gives him a future pathway, assuming NM don’t pick more midfielders with their draft picks.

NM can also get him for free in the pre season draft too (though West Coast might jump in).

All clubs aim to do that.

If Stephens reckons Clarko will let him get away with being soft he's is for a rude shock.

Agreed. If they consider Reid is a good chance of playing next year, we should sign him. Last time he played he was better than Amartey is now.
