Sheldrick stepping up would be great but he still has a way to go. He’s also been injured for significant chunks of his first 2 seasons, and I may be wrong but I think he missed a chunk of his draft year as well.
It was his pre-draft year, where he broke his collarbone and missed the whole season.
Auntie,
I agree with your assessment, and believe the club are still very interested in McKay, so time will tell. Essendon are obviously interested, but McKay is moving because he wants to play in a successful team, and Essendon would be a risky choice.
I will throw up another alternative, Dougal Howard from the Saints. He seems to have fallen out of favour at StKilda but from my recollection he was a good player, but you would need to know the reasons behind why he is available
I don't think we'll get McKay. Essendon hold all the advantages, unless he's chasing a premiership.
It would probably take us a full year to un-norf him, and fit our game style.
Between Francis and melican we have a 2nd tall defender, and defense wasn't our problem against Carlton.
Grundy is a hard yes though.
It seems like 2025 is our target year. Give our forward line another year to develop, while in the meantime bolstering our centre Clarence game.
If Grundy joins there really isn’t a pathway for Pistol Pete. He must be on close to $400k pa.
I wonder if we bring in an old head ruckman URFA and trade out Ladhams for some draft currency
This allows back up to Grundy for two seasons?
No trade cost
Extra draft currency and or trade ie maybe a pick 25 to 35 ie Allir Allir was a future second round pick with only 60games at 26yrs of age.
Also if the old head ruckman is of great character and passion for coaching they could stay on at the club in coaching or management.
That would give us a very interesting draft / trade hand;
11
22
28ish trade for Pistol Pete or a trade up exchange
30
41
49.
If Stephen’s was valued by another club around pick 30ish in this draft or a future pick…..that really make for a strong hand that we could use for combining as lower picks and or for trades if required.
11
22
28ish pistol Pete
30
32ish Stephen’s
41
49
Ps - incidentally Grundy from memory has a law degree and maybe also thought of as a senior player to club pathway in the future.

According to Wikipedia, Grundy has a health science degree. Which might mean that he's interested in some sort of coaching or physio role.
And according to SEN, he's no longer going to Port and is almost certain to come to us. Although, they might be the same people, that stated that we were certain to sign Barrass.
Anyway, if he does come, it probably makes sense to trade Ladhams. I can't imagine Ladhams being that happy to stay the understudy, playing largely in the reserves. It could be argued that leaves us with a lack of ruck depth, but I'm not really sure?
Firstly, we seem to have settled on the relief ruck being a forward/ruck. A role that McLean has done well in lately. While Amartey is possibly a better tap ruckman than McLean and Buller can also ruck. As far as genuine rucks go, I'm quite keen on McAndrew. He acquitted himself pretty well when given a debut earlier in the season, while he generally wins a majority of ruck contests in the VFL. I can only see him improving with another pre-season.
We also currently have Owen, but I'd probably delist him and replace him with Caleb May. Owen did next to nothing in the VFL this season, while I was impressed by May when he played for the academy and the Allies. If we think we need a bit more depth, Mitchell Edwards appeals to me. He was rated as perhaps the best ruck in the draft and a top ten pick, earlier in the season, but now some rankings have him sliding into the twenties. Not sure why, as he looked athletic and skilful when I saw him in the championships, and apparently he's racking up big numbers in the WA colts. If he slips to our current pick 22, I reckon he would be worth the punt. (And while I think of it, the pick 30 listed above, is probably what we would use to get Grundy from Melbourne).
