i must say that makes sense re Green...............especially if we pick up Cleary and also if North were not so keen in the end to trade up to pic 12

    that is how it is

the kid is a seriously merging talent and may even be able to play a KPD for period of time with a 6min 30 second 2km
I'm thinking the same that might develop Green as a intercepting KPD who can then also pinch hit in the ruck. Otherwise Leake looked the obvious available defender for our needs. Time will tell.

Welcome Will Green. Wish you a long & successful career in red and white.

      i hear u

But we need to weigh up

Can he play Ruck KPD ?

Do we have a stack of academy players coming thru around that pick this year next year etc at a discount hwo can play KPD and or mid at great value?

are we bare on young rucks behind Grundy........yep I think Ladhams is backup only and McAndrew who knows to be honest

So a Green in 5yrs year time......at 23yrs of age taking over from Grundy would probably be the youngest starting AFL Snr ruck ever that dominated.......so no.......not likely and more than likely Ladhams and or Mc Andrew no1 and supporting Green

I thnk Green is a critical piece of the puzzle and so Cleary !

I was watching Green's highlights and there were a few contested marks, some in defence.

Not sure what the issue is, I like the pick.

Ruckman take ages to develop so he will be hitting his straps when Grundy is slowing down.

          Smart pick.

How I feel about it too.

And I like that Beatson forced the hand of both the Suns and the Dogs on those other picks - very smart, kept them honest and basically ensured we get Cleary pain-free.

It is interesting how the Swans made a live pick trade for points before matching the bid on Cleary.

Third pick? Or trading out for a future pick?

Lot of wishful thinking there, I see your point but he won’t be waiting til he’s 23 to play senior footy - IF your right and he can play forward or back as well it’s the only way it will work - just disappointed we didn’t go for Leake or the best available

From what I read earlier Green is of similar stature at the same age as Darcy Moore. My guess is they have recruited him as a KPD, which is where our greatest need is. Does anyone remember a bloke called Alex Johnson who played in his first year as a defender? Premiership player who played a ripping match in the GF, and had the last possession in the GF. I'm happy with his selection.

The coverage of the pick trading hasn’t been as good this year as in previous drafts.

It does seem the trade pick that flashed up (with no further details) was us. Trusting an earlier post in this thread, we had enough points to match, so shouldn’t have needed to augment our hand. But I wouldn’t think there was much of a surplus to turn into something else.

Same. Good video, looks athletic and smart:
                            Draft watch: Will Green.

We haven't had a good tap ruckman since Naismith had two good years. With Green and Grundy, we shave now turned a serious deficit in our list to a strength indefinitely:

Pleased that we matched on Cleary. I think he has the potential to be a very good, hard at it, in and under midfielder. And that further adds to the reputation of our academy, that it's produced another first round draft pick (er, and Errol). Not sure if he'll quite end up the bargain that Errol was, but I think in a couple of seasons, he will be considered a bargain.

The late great Barry Round played in the ruck and rested as a CHF.
