I've long thought this would be about the point we might bite the bullet at the trade table and go hard - but it was more on an assumption we would find one really big name to chase and go down that route.

I think if we end up with those 4 players coming in and just Stephens out, it will be a really solid upgrade to the list - we do need some top end experience in some parts to help round out the list. Hamling and Jordan will be relatively cheap depth, but players that can be best 22 clearly too. Grundy and Adams, anywhere near their best, will bring some top end quality to the mix as well. Adams was very good for the Pies this year, but wonder if he sees the writing on the wall there with a lot of younger talent coming through.

Hope we manage to keep our first pick in the draft - if we do, would suggest we will probably take the best we can with that, then take Caiden Cleary wherever we need to, and then have a likely speculator later on. I'd be happy with that.

Last year, lots of us (me included) were moaning about the lack trades and free agent signings, whilst Geelong were supposed to have gotten better with trades.

Now we have done a heap signings and some are still moaning!

I'm happy to change my mindset and support Longmire and the rest of the Swans brain trust in their endeavor to do whatever necessary to push the Swans to the top of the table asap.

I think we've done very well to get Grundy, Adams, Jordon and Hamling. All are best 22 capable players. It may mean that some of my favourite youngsters will lose their spots on our team list, but so be it. Maybe they can find greener and more patient pastures in another valley.

I hope our new group of players stays healthy and takes us to the promised land. The club has my full support in what they've done. They saw an opening to change course, and went for it. I didn't see it coming. If anyone else did on here, they were keeping it secret. Now that it's just about done, I can only stand and applaud. Well done guys.
Hamling is a replacement for McCartin. Grundy for Hickey and Jordon for Stephens.

The only player that really pushes any of your favourite youngsters out of the side is Adams, and I think we had to do something to improve our clearance work. I think they may have chosen an older player deliberately as a short term solution that doesn't shut guys like Sheldrick and Roberts out completely.

The player I'm most concerned about is actually Parker, who became something of a liability on-ball late in the year. The side was improved by moving him to half-forward.

I happy enough with the trade period so far, my question mark is around Adam’s and that he’s potentially at the same stage of his career that Parker finds himself in and can we work 2 players who’s roles are in evolving state and there best has started to decline.

Do we think apart from the Stephen’s deal is thst it for Sydney ?

Because we are trading in total duds!!!

Hamling is a reject from Geelong, Dogs and Freo, and Adams is always injured. I thought that Francis was Paddy replacement??

As for Grundy, how much of his $1m salary are we paying and why did we recruit Ladhams then??

This desperation show our failures in recruiting and trading and salary cap.

Is there a player we have not been linked to??

They are all 30+, showing Longmire continue weakness in playing over the hill players over youth.

Our list has been destroyed in one trade period and all of these players will be gone in two years.

It reminds me of Port Adelaide a few years ago in trading in Watts, Rocklcliff and the disaster that they brought!

Beatson is what 67, our president is almost the same and has never been elected, and we have a coach who has yet to explain why he chosed an injured player in Reid instead of MacDonald in the GF and who has not signed a contract extension.

We believe we are close?? Then why did we get thrashed in that GF??

I get Grundy and we are on the Hook for about 650k if we pay the lot.
JJ I get, a kid with potential and probably just takes what was on offer for Stephens
Hamling I get but the point about Francis is decent and clearly shows not much available so a bit of desperation.

Adams for 2 yrs id be good with but he and Parker are similar and both could be non existent in 3 yrs.

Our clearance issue would be assisted by Grundy and more so by a coaching staff that aren't so defensive. (Heeney and Mills Tagging for christ sake).

Adams played 23 games this year and broke down for finals, mid to high teens is the norm. I just hope we dont get fleeced on these 2 remaining deals.

Cosmic Wizard you ARE stirring the 'happy' pot!

I cannot work out why we are bringing in Hambling to join Arnold, Francis and Melican and there is Tom McCartin. Unless Hambling has been promised a spot in the 22 its a long way to bring your family to play VFL.

                    Jordan is 22 not 30+
Dogs fought hard to keep Hamlin after their 2016 Highway robbery when he played in GF.
Adams would have played in a flag last week if not injured so obviously in their best 22.
Grundy and Adams are both Coplin medallists
McDonald still has a year to run on his contract (as has Gulden BTW)

This year clearly exposed our lack of depth and all premiership teams have 26-30 ready players. Premiership or not, we are a top 6 team and should give us every opportunity to go to the last dance. And for that we need depth. Our depth is pretty poor or too small and junior.

Would the Suns take our pick 11 for Hollands?

Would Elijah want to come to Sydney?

I think he is worth the risk

X factor player and we won’t get anything close at pick 11 that is ready to rock. Much more exciting than what we do with last years top pick and his recovery has been tested from his ACL reconstruction.

worries me what pies will want. even if we wont pass on our first pick will thwey want out ot the extra grundy cash if so we should say shove it. Looks as if though we will not try to better our first opick by chasing one of the higher ones avasilable, would have been nice to recruit Osullivan though.

                            Depth:
So this year was our annus horribilis, last year was annus mirabilis - but we pretty much had exactly the same squad for both years. The two years were both on the extremes of the injury bell curve - If our injury toll had been halfway between the two (or not centred on players over 190cm's) I don't think we would have been caught out.
Still extra depth is great, especially if we a) don't discard young players that would have had a great future at the Swans AND b) don't get fleeced in terms of draft picks by the Maggots or salary cap space by the new players.

                            Junior:
The other thing is that a lot of the kids we are talking about protecting with mature bodies, are themselves maturing.
Adams for exaple will be protecting a pair of 23 year olds, which is the age when they shouldn't need protection - and Angus "Lumpy" Sheldrick whose physique is already far stockier than Adams'.
Again, I realy hope we don't discard young players that would have had a great future at the Swans. Imagine if we'd traded out The Chad after his first (utterly unprepossessing) season.

I've banged on about him ad naseum. But at this stage, he's like Dylan Stephens - potential rather than performance - so, no to pick 11 and sadly looks like the Blues will get him.
