I think the amount Collingwood will continue to contribute is widely accepted. The possibility of Melbourne also making an ongoing contribution is surely speculation (and maybe fantasy).

I'd heard about Collingwood paying some of his salary, but not about Melbourne doing likeise for whoever buys him.

You are correct Liz. The biggest problem is trying to convince Grundy to come to Sydney against going back to his hometown Adelaide. I have heard he is a private individual which may help the Swans, however Port are in the same boat as the Swans in as much both clubs desperately need a ruckman

If he does love his privacy, Sydney should be an easier sell to him than Adelaide. It sounds like he might enjoy the inner west more than the surfing east.

Melbourne chipping in is pure speculation by id say plausible given he has 4yrs and 650k/year left on his deal and he isnt playing

We wouldn't be paying more than $500k for Grundy

Did anyone else think GWS would finish above us in 2023?

I find them not a particularly enjoyable team to watch yet we finished lower on the table ???

Is that a reality check of where we are at?

I’m happy to be playing finals after where we’ve been most of the year.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

2022 aside, GWS and is have tracked pretty similar over the last few years. I'd say the list quality is similar.

Yep. They massively underperformed last year.

They are not bereft of youngish players but I think their core of players they depend upon are stronger, more mature bodies, and more experienced than ours. Our defence is more experienced than theirs (though they also have - sometimes - the superb Taylor) but their forward line and midfield are stronger and more experienced.

Given you can pretty much throw a blanket over all the teams' performances this year, bar the top four and bottom three, I don't think there's any reality check to be gained from where the Giants finished relative to us.

We finished higher. Toby missed out on finals. Seasons been ok so far.

I assumed you were talking about Toby Nankervis.

I don’t mind the big Nanker. I can’t begrudge him wanting more opportunities when we were willing to offer. While I’m not fond of Richmond’s success (mainly because some of their supporters are annoying & it it meant that we were not as successful those seasons) I am happy for an ex-Swans personal success & happiness (in this instance)

So no, error in reading the ladder too quickly

Not fond of that other Toby. Or his team.
