Carlton ruckman De Koning had previously been a Sydney target, having also attracted interest from Geelong and St Kilda, but ultimately elected to remain at Ikon Park last week on a two-year deal.
This from Kinnear Beatson
"No," Beatson said. "Categorically, hand on heart, there was no contract offer in front of Tom.
"Tom didn't want to meet with any club, I don't think he met with Geelong or St Kilda.
Dear Riley, after the initial approach to DeKoning's management where they said he was not interested in meeting any other club I doubt he was a Swans target. A target is someone you pursue because of need and availability. He was obviously not available to be a target. If Riley had said we had interest in DeKoning that would have been correct. A target is something you fire all guns at. As Kinnear puts it we certainly did not pursue him after being told he had no interest.
I love this from Kinnear;
"Sometimes, what's reported in the press is a little bit out of control. I can categorically say we never put a contract offer to Tom's management. That surprised us when it came out."
The Barrass one was also interesting. After tom signed a big deal with West Coast we put interest to bed. But his management reached out to us this year, not the other way around as the press keep saying. But Tom decided to stay there.
Presumably we've all now seen the interview between Riley, Cal and Kinnear?
But some of the stuff Riley Beverige is coming out with seems to bear almost no relationship to that discussion. Such creativity is usually the preserve of fiction writers.

"He's out of Melbourne", and we are one of two clubs looking at him.
By my maths, we are 50/50 chance of getting him. And Port would have just as much cap pressure as we do, if not more. We can , in all likelihood, offer a better 2nd rounder than Port will be able to.
Fingers crossed. He's only 29. Should have 3-4 years in him. Go for it swans.
Yeah - last week all the reporting was Melbourne had told everyone no dice; now this week it's a done deal. Colour me sceptical on any reporting around Grundy, given it's the ultimate click bait topic.
Now, if we could get him for a late 20s/early 30s pick and Melb taking another $100k off the contract - leaving us at $550K - I'd think about it. Beyond that, unconvinced. I'm not at Ludwig levels re ruckman, but I certainly don't believe in tying up large chunks of your salary cap on them unless it's a Dean Cox or Max Gawn.
If we recruit Grundy, then we can cut Hickey and Owen and try to trade Ladhams, just keeping McAndrew as a backup, thus freeing up 2 list spots. It could be a significant list improvement.

Pretty sure if he is moved on by Melb, Pies no linger have to pay a thing, therefore he is at 900k again and Melb have to chip in

Ladhams has to stay, this year is proven how thin things can get

That is brutal and heartless. Hickey has been a tremendous servant to the Swans. At least trade him to Port or the Crows so he can complete the set and play for clubs in 5 different States! And pay part of his salary to get the deal done.
