I listened to Gettable and heard KB say that Tom Barass’ management approached him not vice versa. Which makes his decision to stay a little weird.

With rumours swirling that the Weagles will sack Adam Simpson I wonder if that changes anything there?

I don't think that makes his decision weird. I daresay he was thinking about it, but there was no point considering a move to Sydney if neither of the Sydney clubs were open to him joining them (and prepared to do the deal to make it happen, or at least consider doing the deal to make it happen). So the approach by his manager to the Swans seems like it was just about finding out if him moving was an option.

I think you’d have to be a fair way along in your thinking to approach another club about a move. One that you know made a serious play for you recently.

For me, his decision to stay means (1) he changed his mind (2) Swans weren’t prepared to pay what WCE were asking (3) Swans weren’t prepared to pay what he was asking (4) he’s been “persuaded” to stay

I think (1) is the least likely explanation … and Simpson (and Nesbitt) leaving could change (2) or (4)

By the sounds of Beetson he will be reconstructed. Hd says Swans are happy with his progress

I worry about some of Francis's decision making and execution. He gives up the odd goal through such stupid footy. I mean that terrible handball last week.

Parish is yet another same same mid. We have plenty like him. But do not have a bull

I reckon he finds his space by ducking and weaving and running hard rather than by using power in his legs.
I agree. But he can be a low impact player at times. Merritt is the beautiful kick. Parish is not always so clean.

I will add a 5th. Barass has missed a lot of games over the past few years, and added to your scenarios that perhaps the Swans got cold feet at the asking price.

They don’t want a trade at all as then they would lose out on possible pick 3 compensation for losing McKay to free agency.

Melican and Stephens not with a pick 3, especially when they can get Stephens for free if he doesn’t sign with us.

Barass has already said he is staying a WC player.

isnt the Barass situation as simple as West Coast are in meltdown and now are about to get through a protracted rebuild.

Barass is definitely good enough to be a KPD in a top4 team and has a window to be in another GF team and maybe win another GF

Sydney would have been in the top3 window teams that desperately need a KPD ???

so his manager checked in on the Swans appetite given the above and Bud retiring and freeing up more $

                              simples?

North Melbourne would only refuse to do a trade if they would definitely get a first-round compensation pick for McKay. That is far from assured. If the best they can get is an end-of-first round pick, they would push for more via a trade. Our two second-round picks would be considered, and could be on-traded by North for a top-10 pick. (A possible trade: Suns get two second-round picks, North gets the Suns' first-round pick, we get McKay, plus a swap of later picks to balance out the trade. Picks 2 and 5 would be almost as good as picks 2 and 3, even if North gave up a later pick (eg: 39 or 53) as part of that trade.)

As for Stephens going to North via the PSD, that is not guaranteed either. As it stands North Melbourne would not have the first pick in the PSD. All that has to happen to scuttle that plan is for West Coast to make noises about picking up Stephens, and that plan sinks fast. I also doubt Stephens would risk the lottery of the PSD. Relationships would have to be seriously bad for that to be a live option, and I don't see any indication of that happening.
