2023 List Management

We still have a long window.

We have Mills, Heeney and Paps for another five years.

We have a batch of elite young talent from Blakey back in age, who've been a bit inconsistent this year and are going through some growing pains (a la Melbourne in '19 and '20) but boy it's a great group.

We do have some list work to do, as our older talent in Bud, Ramps are going; we've always known our KPP stocks needed replenishing; and we need one or two other positional weaknesses addressed (ie: small forward). But we've got a cracker of a draft hand this year, and our salary cap situation has eased. So if Kinnear and co do their job right, we can recover quickly.

The problem is that KPP’s via the draft can take 3-4 years at least to develop to a good and consistent level, assuming you get it right. Re: trades- the obvious one for us is HH. Is there anyone else worth trading for? Clearly, we need more as Ramps may not have too many years and the Macs’ future is so uncertain. Up forward we have Logan and an injury prone Amartey. Very little cover so realistically guys I can’t see how we’re going to challenge the top 4 teams. We have a talented young team but a lot of the pieces are missing so I’m thinking that finishing in the 8 and playing some finals from next year on is what’s realistic, unless we pick up or unearth 2-3 stars.

I could never understand why we cut BOC from our list a player 24yo 193cm 93kg ( we need the height) i thought he was coming along ok his marking & kicking had improved out of sight as we know GWS picked him up
their VFL side 5 wins 2 losses in 2023 so far his disposals in his 7 games 25,22,21,24,23,19,23 i think that shows his going well besides Sheldrick i dont know of many others in our VFL side with better stats & consistent

Are the Giant's not trying to make him into a KPP, is that the difference?

Elliott might be Mr Right, but we need Mr Right Now. I think we'll go for a more developed, match ready player in the mid season draft. Elliott is potential only, and we don't have time to wait - we need help now.

Doubt anyone drafted on May 31 would be able to make the senior side, big jump in standard to senior AFL level, lack of senior fitness, lack of game plan knowledge, unless it's BOC!

This season is done. Looking like pick 5 for us so we'll probably take someone for the future, a tall I suspect.

Collingwood would've been thinking the same thing a couple of years ago when they finished 17th with Brody Mihocek their key position forward. It seems dire right now because it is - we have zero talls but things can change pretty quickly and I still believe we have the core mids and medium players who are going to be stars.

O'Connor would be an interesting pick. Though I think GWS have been trying to turn him into a big bodied midfielder.

Don’t know about Stoddart Mal as we we didn’t give him much of a chance- but we certainly did with Bell and he wasn’t up to it, though he gave his all. However, remember The Bloods (where is he, btw?) always said that he should be playing in the guts, rather than in !the graveyard!

They don't play in positions where we particularly need someone to come in now. Stoddart I gather is still playing across half-back. He's not going to push Florent or Lloyd or Campbell or McInerney out of the team.

The mail seems to be firming that the Swans have their eye on McDonald, assuming no other club gets in first.

Stoddart was good in the VFL game against us, and Ludwig rates him.

Re Bell, he knows our system, and he hasn’t done worse than Sheather or Corey Warner so far, so he is just someone we can stick on the field to cover for injuries.

Oscar McDonald delisted by two other clubs. Surely Melican is at least as good and knows our systems.

McDonald would indicate the club still believes they can make finals.

WCE, Hawks, Norf and GWS select before us. Hawks bound to have a Box Hill special tucked away, WCE probably take a Perth local, Norf will take a prayer book as they need one, GWS likely to be a young player as they have already ruled out finals this season so McDonald will be available all right, but I hope not.

GWS might pick up BOC after his performances for their VFL side, but if they don’t maybe we can since he knows our system too
