Based on the level of improvement he has shown - whilst still recognising the ground he's yet to make up - I'd be keeping Edwards over Reid, if that was the choice. Our list priorities need to built around trying to find the next flag list. Edwards may or may not get there, but he seems worth perservering with.

How I rated these players:
Reid is a wait pending further information, so is not ranked along with other players.
HHK is my highest rated VFL player, i.e. the one most likely to make it as an AFL player.
It's hard to see where Stephens fits into our side. Has a lot of tools, but is simply ineffective as a player. After 4 years, I can't see where the improvement comes from, since it's a mental thing, not a physical one. He might have some trade value. A spark could go off in his head and he could become an elite midfielder, but how long do we have to wait. I would rather leave the spot to someone like Rankin, who has less talent, but keeps improving.
I like Clarke, but will never be a best 22 player. With so many kids coming up through the ranks, he will be squeezed out of his fill in roles. I would love for him to stay in our VFL side.Last edited by Ludwig; 26 June 2023, 04:12 PM.Comment

Owens and Edwards are KP players in their first year with the Swans, so as long as they have shown signs of improvement I expect they will be given another year.
We might also lose a player or two through trades - for example Amartey or McLean might be in demand.Comment

With an unlimited list size, I would keep Owen and Edwards as well. This exercise can't be done by projecting the loss of players that the club would want to keep. I don't think the club will let go of Amartey or McLean.
Melican if a free agent and might leave for the right offer. So he could be an out, but I can't project that at this time. With our current need for key defenders, I think we will try to keep Melican if we believe he will be fit to play more often than not. The key defender mix will be a hard call until the end of the season.
I figure that we need to create 7 spots:- Arnold
- Buller
- Trade in (like Himmelberg)
- Cat B rookie (Cleary or May)
- ND 1st round pick
- ND 2nd round pick
- ND 2nd round pick from Hawthorn
Different assumptions will produce different results.
I'm happy to hear how others see our approach to the post season.Comment

You could well be right. I think the injury this year is a recurrence of his navicular injury from last year. Foot injuries are often career ending, so this could well be the case. So he's definitely on the injury watch list. We will have to wait for an update. If Sheather has to be delisted, I reluctantly think he take the place of Sam Wicks or we just might go for another draft pick.Comment

Here's the yarn from AFL website re Amartey. And I'm glad we're also in talks with McLean. I know he has his limitations, but I can't help but like him, his endeavour, his improvement and we need solid citizen depth players like him. I've also said before - I reckon he'd be so coachable. I'm personally a fan.

Agreed- McLean has improved a lot these last few games and we defo need to keep him. May not be a star but he’s more than handy and if he develops further may become a permanent in the team. Well done so far Hayden! Here's the yarn from AFL website re Amartey. And I'm glad we're also in talks with McLean. I'm very happy about Amartey. He's really come on this year, and bounced back from the injury layoff. Here's the yarn from AFL website re Amartey. And I'm glad we're also in talks with McLean. I like McLean too: as you say, a good solid hard-working player like many a Swan before him. Clunks marks, kicks straight, no-nonsense. He had a lot of involvement in the Eagles game, you'll see a few handballs and assists in the highlights video.
Two handy forwards and can both relief-ruck too, Amartey a little more so with the extra spring.
It's about the third time I've said it, but a highlight for me from the weekend was a real glimpse of how exciting the post-Buddy forward line could be - fingers crossed for keeping them all, and keeping them injury-free.Comment

I think the original injury was a fracture and that the current injury is a hot spot, so technically not a recurrence but perhaps a consequence of the original injury. The worry would be if it is the other foot and he has a biomechanical weakness on both sides.I hope he is alright because he looks a good prospect. You could well be right. Not sure where Stephens is, contract wise. Earlier in the year the media was saying he and others were in talks. Others seem to have signed. As yet, no Dyl.Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment
