We took a punt on Paddy McCartin and perhaps we should not have done that? But that's hindsight. We need a good back man, such as Alir, we don't have one. Personally I'd say that should be our main task next year. That and hanging on to our young players especially Logan.

Our players are young, very young- we need to hold on to them, because in the next few years they will be outstanding players. But we need some good backs- any coming through?
Bud should retire. He was woeful.?He has been consistently woeful this year. One good game. Buddy WAS the greatest player to play the game but time has caught up with him.

Horse has lost the plot. You can't continue to bomb the ball to Tony Lickett when he isn't there. How many balls go into that forwardline as a pass? 50% Nope. 40% Nope. 30% Nope. 20% Nope. 10% yep. Hayden takes the occasional big grab but he is not bringing it down and the bombs are not to his advantage anyway. They always seem to advantage the defenders.?

As for the backline. You cannot expect cohesion if you are changing the backs every week. Leave them in and let them develop an understanding. Rampe may not even play again so we need to blood them.

Lost by 17 pts after losing Mills and Mcdonald early. We were without Reid, Amartey, Tom and Paddy McCartin and Rampe in terms of key positions. We missed Ladhams and Hickey looked very under done. They have a strong midfield and they dominated us in the ruck. By and large our effort was there but our kicking skills aren't great this year. Freo are in good form. It's an even competition apart from a few teams. We still have a developing midfield some of whom have come down to earth a bit after last year. Disappointed at the loss but we've had no luck this year.

Agree coach is amost gone or at lest the selectors are. We pick no extra ruck and go with a bloke who has played oe maybe 2 games in the reserves against almost the best ruck combo in the afl. Why not give MacAndrew a go at least hw is as tall if not taller than Freos ruck and he might have beenable to give them a fight and let Hickey play back up. We have no reserves and if we do have a pick in mid season draft and go for oscar mc that will prove that our selectors/recruiting staff are useless, He will be like Francis a player dismissed from 2 clubs at least Francis only was not wanted at 1. I knows we have a lot of injuries but the way we are playing we have lost it. and as bad as the year we got rid of Eade.

I don't think he has been playing that badly, we just have really high expectations of him.
Buddy only had 4 possessions today and is out marked by his opponent week in, week out, so if that's not playing that bad, then I'm not sure what is.

However, I agree that he should still be playing at this point as we have little else to offer as a key forward, and the season is basically shot anyway.

We have Reid, McCartin, McCartin, Amartey, Rampe and Ladhams out injured. We lost Mills and McDonald and Buddy is a witches hat. Yet we still only lost by under 3 goals. Not a bad effort really.

Great finish to the quarter! We are trying but still severely undermanned!

Hopefully we have a real crack in the last and who knows!

Yes, we looked a chance at three quarter time. Just find some posters' relentless carping and negativity very wearing.

Too early to judge on Sheather . Warner and McInerney were useless in their first few games.

Me too....I've only read this page having just got home from work and some other stuff and I wish I hadn't bothered. Actually some posts were quite positive but one was typically pessimistic and that is tiring.

I think I'll avoid the rest of the thread and do something else.

Longmire needs to go back up in the box and look at our setup, we were out numbered all day at every contest.

Our mids are playing like we have Gawn going to win every tap, fwd of the ball.

The overlap handball chains that teams do against us in tight is staggering

It’s about time that the whole organisation has a good hard look cause as a club we have fallen off a cliff . After watching the abysmal performance from the 2 s again we are in a world of pain with our recruitment. From last 2 yrs there is no draft picks playing in 1st grade and that’s your cover from injuries. . Love buddy and what his brought to the club but we didn’t learn our lesson with goddes west he went one to long and we lost membrey .
Someone isn’t doing their job as Longmire sits there and after the game and says lower the eyes into forward line but bombing in still happens so it’s players or coaches not doing there job .

That was an abysmal performance. Injuries are one thing but to continually bombing it forward will never win a game .

When it rains it pours hey.

I do struggle with the we’re destined for the wooden spoon/as bad as the early 90s commentary. I’ve said before we remind me a bit of Melbourne on their trajectory. They got their shellacking in 2018 in a prelim rather than a grand final. But they had a young core of 21 and 22yos on track for something special, but not quite there yet in terms of consistency, and a few list holes to fill. 2019 and 2020 were down years, but they were maturing and rounding out their list. Throw in our extensive injury list, and we’re likewise dipping back with some work to do.

As for today, the loss of Mills and Logan was bad, but even worse was poor Hickey coming back into seniors for the first time in 9 months and coming up against the best tap ruckman in the comp in rare form. I managed to be down in Sydney for the game, but Darcy really was just toying with us. And the lack of cohesion and confidence was notable. The extra handball to a bloke in a worse position killed us again and again.

                            A few pluses

                            - Campbell. Good on Horse for mixing it up, and he looked good playing on the ball. I had a great view from behind the goals at the Randwick end on his goal. He was at the stoppage at half back, the next contest almost right away where four or five blokes went up for the fist, before Rowbottom fired out the handball to McInerney. Campbell got back to his feet and sprinted for 70m to crumb the ball off McLeans contest, and then run into goal. It was a stellar effort.

                            - Gulden. He really is remarkable. I think they tried to run Aish with him at times but it was pointless. He just went everywhere, and did everything. BOG along with Darcy.

                            - Chad, Blakey, Heeney in the second half, and McInerney all had a real dip.

As for the rest of the year, I hope Horse does some more of what he did today with Campbell. Let’s find out who can do what. I lack real confidence in Gould and Francis, as I think they lack the athleticism needed for modern footy and looked desperately lacking in movement at times today, but we might as well play them for a bit and find out. I’d be inclined to find a couple of games for McAndrew. And when Amartey is back and fit, straight back in.
'Delicious' is a fun word to say

I’m with you guys. Losing both Mills and McDonald so early was a disaster for our structure. Gulden played an absolute blinder again. The kid’s a footy marvel.
Unfortunately we’re in a massive injury hole this year, so time to put the energies into development.

                                Harley Reid Cup next week

We played with a lot of effort I thought, and Francis played his best game for us so far. He wasn't outstanding by any stretch, but he was solid.

Gulden was fantastic. I was surprised they didn't give McAndrews a game to pair up with Hickey given the two Freo monsters and Hickey coming back from injury.

Also good to see Campbell get some midfield time.

Given where we are this season, I think we should give Campbell and Gus as much time in the midfield as possible, and as Ludwig has said, put Gould and Francis in the backline for a stack of games. Assuming McDonald is not seriously injured, Buddy to play decoy or as back up ruck - he isn't kicking goals and he is no longer too valuable to risk in ruck contests.
