First glimpse at AFL level of what the recruiters saw in him to take him so high up. Love to see him get a run of games in the guts across the rest of the year, as I think he will learn a lot if he does. I know he looks unfavourable compared to some others we overlook to took him at this point, but still think he is going to be a seriously good player, and perhaps part of the solution to the midfield conundrum. But early days - but was pleased to see some real good signs in a very contested, hard fought (if low quality) game tonight. Baby steps, but as you say he is as hard as nails.

While I thought we did better in the midfield than expected, we still missed Parker tonight.

Shocking execution and decision making, on every level. I'll give that to St Kilda in the first quarter - they were swarming us, so it's expected to an extent. But to not follow through after we had that brief spell in the second is near-unforgivable.

Fox, Oli and Chad a stand out. Same with Campbell, given his experience. Gulden good but some poor kicks. Heeney tried. Paps starting to regain a bit of form.

The umpiring was outright criminal. It started with the policing of the 15 metre rule (wholly against the Swans) from the opening bounce, then degenerated into a farce from there. Something needs to change, and fast.

EDIT: If there were ever a game to forensically analyse umpiring performance, this is it.
The umpires were just cheats and that is it. I accuse the AFL of trying to get Saints to the finals

        I agree

Under Gil the AFL has been very corrupt.

It is clear to see why he couldn't nail down a spot at either end at a team as consistently poor as the Bombers have been. He does a lot right - but he goes to sleep, or is let down by utterly awful decision making.

And yes - agree about the frees. But sigh - that is now part and parcel of the game sadly.

I am not being piss poor. Longmire has been here too long. It might be hard to believe but there are clubs thst actually value premiershipsvand not just finals.

So it's the umps and afl's fault now. You can lay off the coach then. It's all pre determined.

It felt the most blatant I have seen. We lost the game though, at least that takes my fury down a few levels

And while there is some validity in the point around under done players (for instance Amartey didn't even look close to fit for mine tonight, Blakey was struggling even before the HIA, Rampe looked well off the pace), our last quarters this year have been pretty terrible in general. Our fitness levels do not feel like they are where they should be - some of that is injuries/under done player related, but I think more broadly there are question marks around our conditioning this season. Some years you just don't get it right - and we certainly haven't this year.
Yes our players were cramping only 4 games ago

Francis is good in the air but ordinary once the ball hits the deck.

He really is. Already showing the JPK traits of an ability to loosen arms for a handball under extreme tackle pressure but deprive the opponent of chance to do the same. Throws himself at any contest.

Been a few years but did his side get embarrassed and smashed in a recent grand final. Do you think one of his teams would ever be humiliated in a grand final?

Chris Scott also has the Geelong advantage of a seemingly endless salary cap.

If they want to trade him to an Adelaide side, I am happy with that.
Agree. We've hardly had anyone put together a solid month of strong performances. The players have been so inconsistent this year! Injuries haven't helped, but there are plenty of very good players who have played every game that have been up and down all season! Mostly down TBH...

He won in his first year in 2011. But the difference is he has been able to adopt a totally different style of footy and brought in some really fast wingers and HB. We tried a new style but when that was not working we go back to same old, same old, extra in defence, moving the whole team to defence, like today.

Horse is a really nice guy but I don't think he has, another premiership in him. Premierships are what really counts. He is just unable to change when the chips are down, like today. He played into Ross' hands tonight by playing so negatively in thr first. Then we, changed it up in the second. But the reality was as soon as they got a run on we went back to the totally defensive game. We were saving the game not winning it.

He was playing on Sinclair bimut they play Sinclair at HB and through the mids. But he was more effective off HB. That means Clarke was useless
