What were they doing to Paps. In the 3rd quarter all they wanted to do was kick to him. 6 forward 50's in a row they landed the ball on his head, and the poor bloke got crunched every time. Most of the time he didn't call for it and he couldn't get out of the way.

It is genuinely difficult to identify the person Franklin would replace. Surely if Amartey and McDonald are fit they play every game. McLean is improving his ruck work and plays an important role. Maybe Ludwig is right. He returns as a a sub.

If we want to keep Sheldrick in the 22, then Fox may have to remain the sub, even though I would agree he's in our top dozen players. Fox showed today that he makes the perfect sub, easily slotting into our forward line today.

Tom McCartin may be ready to come back into the AFL side. He played very well in the VFL and is better than either of our KPDs from today, although both played well. I suppose he replaces either Melican or Francis, but not sure which one.

It's been a long time since we had legit selection problems.
Melican is playing Tom McCartin's role. Francis plays the Paddy McCartin intercept role. Also, Francis is a more effective player than Melican.

I wouldn't bring buddy back for Geelong. We have a young forward line, who just got a massive injection of confidence. If keep it as it is. Only change would be Tom mc for Melican.

Would they bring Buddy back in place of Clarke/Hayward? Surely not. I think sub / McLean.

And yes in theory Tom replaces Lewis if they go like for like.

Going to be an interesting selection this week.

We kicked 31 goals without Buddy. I wonder if they’ll let his knees continue to bother him for another week?

Im also starting to like Francis as key defender. Him, T Mc, Rampe, lizard, Lloyd, Fox plus a few swing men is good enough.

Our job with Buddy now is to ensure he gets chaired off the ground at our last home game, having played a cracker, in the way the game’s greatest player of the 21st century and future Hall of Fame Legend deserves.

If that means he sits out a few to get a really good training block in, then plays a couple of games to regain touch, or some other pathway to get there (such as sub, though I think that’s unlikely), so be it.

He’s not selfish so it’s unlikely he will be focused on that, but I still hope it’s done right.

From injury crisis to selection dilemmas in 1 game!

Here is a crazy idea / thought experiment- keep the team as is.

Everyone played well (Melican and Clarke included). From the point of view of winning tight games Fox has to be the perfect sub - experienced player, can win the ball and impact contest, play forward or back.

Our young forwards need game time together. Imagine the impact on our VFL team and development of our other young players if TMac, Buddy and Hayward are in the team.

Team changes only due to injury or form. Slightly crazy - particularly regarding TMac - but I like the thought of backing in the confidence gained by 205 points and it makes the Buddy issue easier as it is not just him having to wait getting back into the firsts.

The thing I like about Gulden and Campbell is that they are such good kicks, and they both learnt this on
suburban ovals around Sydney. And they are 20/21 years old. We could easily get another ten years out
of each of them, and at least there won't ever be the "go home" factor coming into play with them.

The penny has dropped with Campbell. He now realises he can be a gun at senior level.

Errol won the trophy and well deserved as he was dominant from the very start (like most to be fair Lol).

There were some outstanding marks taken and some easier ones not. Evens out.
I’ve haven’t seen a game like it (the number of goals) for ages, loved all the quick weaving and dodging . West Coast therefore missed a lot of tackles.
They threw an after party on the 3rd floor of the members (Bradman?) with a very exuberant band called
                          SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM.
The lead (is she called Sneaky?) was fabulous .

A neighbour scammed me in .
                          However:
So I've got one pant tucked under a sock still (after the bike ride to the SCG) .
The gateman at the Members goes :
"You can't come in to the Members with track pants . "
They are not track pants , they are pleated dress pants , I rode my bike here."

                          The lady gate person goes
" He rode his bike here Max, let him in, just pull the pant out of your sock luv."
                          A sensible female .
                          It was a great night.
Thanks for the after party (whoever was responsible).

                          ????????

I have said that a forward line of Amarty, Mcdonald, Papley and Heeney is a dangerous forward line because they all compliment each other. We saw it against Hawthorn and now West Coast. It will be interesting if it can perform against a quality defense like Geelong. So please Buddy stay out for at least one more week.

I like it, and there is history of no changes after a solid win. Though it does sound like Tom McCartin is ready.

I feel even more excited about the post-Buddy forward line this morning than I did yesterday. Amartey was going great before his injury, it's good to see him get back to that level. McDonald has the confidence to go with the skills now. Add to that Papley and Heeney of course and I like the solid no-nonsense of McLean too: clunks marks, kicks straight. It's starting to look exciting.

I heard Gerard Healy recently say that Don Pyke is well entrenched in Sydney with his family and has no desire to leave anytime soon. So much so, Healy raised the possibility of Longmire passing on the baton to Pyke sometime in the future, ala as he did with Roos.
