Yes I am a youthful 56 wolfetone57 - thanks for the compliment.
"Dropping the ball" was considered Holding the ball then merged into incorrect disposal.
Fighting win in the end - could have been a brilliant game for Warner with a bit more awareness.
Blakey best for me but McLean has improved so much this year - great to see.
But what is incorrect disposal? The umpires sure don't know. Nor do players. Nor do supporters. In fact the rules do not explain Incorrect Disposal, only to say in an earlier explanation of Throw or kick & handball (what a is a handball?) It is not explained in the rules. A throw it says is illegal. But neither dropping or throwing are a part of Incorrect Disposal. In fact this is not explained except to say see previous explanation. But there is none. No wonder umpires don't know. The rules are so vague. Except on the AFL's big issues. The rest is so interpretive you could just make it up on the run

FL is correct. It has always been incorrect disposal that morphed into "ball", and most people in the crowd said "dropping the ball" and still do.Comment

Originally 'Dropping the Ball' was a stand alone free. If was not considered holding the ball at all. That came later. First throwing the ball then holding the ball. But how it could be holding the ball is beyond me as they do exactly the opposite. Both dropping the ball, now incorporated into holding, was taken from that and joined with the throw in Incorrect Disposal.

You may be right about there never being a rule actually called 'dropping the ball'......from this page: History of Rule Changes - AFL.com.au :
1939
"Holding man-holding ball rule revised. Free to be paid against player who deliberately dropped ball when tackled.".....which fans may have 'unofficially' just called 'dropping the ball'.Comment

Yeah, five in a row is good. The first half looked like 10th playing 13th with some dreadful footy by both sides
but in second half we were cleaner and better.
Overall a very even effort by our guys. Which is what you want. 18.6 following up 15.6 last week is pretty decent
kicking. And who would have thought a soccer (a code that has largely passed me by) game could be so captivating.
Driving home after the game it was very quiet on the street. I guess everyone was inside watching the WWC.
It'll blow over.Comment

It’s is bloody red hot kicking
The scoreboard pressure we have applying with quite often less entries far large parts of the game is brutal"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I thought our second half was really good , started to win clearances . Paps done done nice work in tight and Rowbottom was a bull . He actually at times has more time to dispose of it than he realises .

bit of Jude. He's clearly as tough as nails, is very consistent and his ability to jag a goal out of nowhere is a very handy skill.
Learning on the job from the best (JPK, Parker) has helped him get him where he is now.Comment

Why pick this game. Our backline has been poor most of the year at least since mccarins and rampe wqent down and melican injured as well. NEED to play Arnold nwxt game or else Tex will gt anothwe rbag. Maybe he still will but give Arnold a go . recruited in mid year to halp the backline.Comment

I think down the track Rowbottom is going to going into the record books as truly great Swans player. He reminds me a
bit of Jude. He's clearly as tough as nails, is very consistent and his ability to jag a goal out of nowhere is a very handy skill.

John was effusive in lauding James's hardness in his presser last night.
He was very good last year, but even a little better this year. 90 games.Comment
