Rampe played his best game for a while.

The umpires collectively made some absolute howlers in this match. Commencing with no free kick paid for Wright’s hit on Cunningham.

The game clearly needs more boundary umpires.

Yes, the instant play on call after Cunners was decked was simply disgusting umpiring.

Feels like the Swans expect to outlast their opponents and expect Grundy to dominate later in games.

That felt like a very mature win from a young side

A very exciting win! Crappy situation with Cunningham.

Corey Warner tried and attacked hard, didn't lack confidence. Could have had 2-3 goals, some more experience will help.

Papley had an amazing game, 10 marks!

Heeney, Gulden and Chad Warner were fantastic.

Hayward had a great game with 3 goals.

Melican was good too, as were McLean, McInerney and Blakey.

Grundy toiled hard and improved after being beaten early by Draper.

              Roberts very composed.

              What wasn't so great...

Umpiring was crappy, the out of bounds not called that resulted in a goal, the missed 50 when the Essendon player kicked the ball after the free kick was called.

Lloyd was Florent both poor at times with skill execution.

RB after one of his best ever games last week, was given a bit of a bath by Merrett.

McCartin had a bit of a forgettable game too.

Anyway, 3-0 now, and a possibility for Fox to be ready to come back in next week.

It was astonishing that the high hit wasn’t called up by #6 umpire. Just stuck his arms up & says nothing to see here. No more than 10m away.

& I know it’s easy to pour $h&@ on the umps, & as supporters we can be one-eyed, but some games I watch the consistency just don’t seem to be there.

Draper (btw, should he be cast as Riff Raff in the Rocky Horror Show?) was allowed to push the limits in ruck contests - & the more he got away with, the worse he got. The he was awarded frees for what appeared to be innocuous infringements. (Although the Errol hit was there).

surelythe free kick count 8/19 dons way that i saw on tv cant be correct. Whoever counts them must be like the boundary guy who let that kick go when the essendon player was nearly in the first row of seats. Many frres didnt go our m way, afl must want the dons in finals and get their fans in.

further should draper be cited for the attack on lloyd. deliberate act and dangerous.

It wasn’t it was 18/19 - in saying that nothing says free kicks have to be even or close in number - if one team impedes more than the other they will give away more frees, never understood this free kicks have to be close thing it’s a rule or a requirement lol

He is a pure footballer, developing into a mini Hodge. Another who could be a gun midfielder in time if neceassary. Serong was a miss but Warner, Rowbottom and Roberts are gems from further down the draft. McInerney as well. I've probably forgotten a few, including Parker.

Agree 100%....it was disgustingly biased and irresponsible umpiring. Makes a mockery of this league's 'seriousness' in protecting the head. Will be interesting to see if the MRP have the same slack Victorian attitude.

Almost correct ....it's the frees that aren't paid that can make the difference and there was a lot of examples of that against Essendon. I would change your statement slightly to "if one team impedes more than the other they should give away more frees" but this was not the case last night.

Agree with many comments about Roberts. Seems to be so composed and his disposal by foot and ball very good this season. What I like the best is that Roberts is team first always. Rather than blast a kick into the air, he will pass by foot or hand to a team mate who is in better position. One of our big improvers this season no matter on half back or across the centre. Don't worry about Grundy. He may get beaten for the tap but his second and third efforts are excellent and he seems to improve the longer the game goes. Grundy is a great asset for the Swans in only his third game which all goes well for our season and bid for the flag. Just as an aside, Ladhams has kicked goals in the VFL so far and rated one out best in the game against Coburg. So good backup for Grundy
