A very interesting non-decision near the end of the game. A North player about 60 m out from the North goal took a mark from a kick off the ground and 2 Collingwood players - thinking it wasn't a mark - tackled him. A 50m penalty would've been a certain goal and probable victory to North but it wasn't adjudicated that way.

Outrageously bad umpiring for both those players to get away with that. Any other time in the game, zero chance they would. It was clearly whistled as a mark - irrespective of what distance. Zero excuse.
Let alone the Daicos clear HTB in North's forward 50 as well. But an umpire can't possibly give a free against a Daicos now, can they?"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

The AFL news this week will be all about how the Pies came back from 54 points down whilst missing lots of their players, and little acknowledgement of how the Swans are now effectively 4 games clear on top of the ladder, missing two of their starting 22 for most of the season, plus also Fox.Comment

I don't know how Collingwood supporters have survived over the last three years with all these close finishes. I'm just glad the Swans comebacks this year happen earlier in the match and we haven't had heart failures!Comment

Although, if his commentary is anything to go by, Selwood probably did get hit in the head many times.Comment

They are both graduates at the Mark Ricciuto Institute Of Commentary. I was at the SCG that day in 1994 we gave up 8
goals in the last quarter to lose to St Kilda, it was horrible. And then the next year the main protagonist was playing for us. Not
Norths turnaround is coming that quickly though.Last edited by KTigers; 17 June 2024, 01:15 AM.Comment

I wonder if it was the same umpire who paid a free to Sheezel early in the game in the forward pocket, only for Collingwood to kick the ball upfield.....and get this, he called play on to Collingwood. It was only when the ball was on the wing that another umpire stopped the play and reminded him he paid a free to North. Oh how that umpire must have felt.Comment

A lot of non-calls both ways in that last 5 mins of the Collingwood North game, obviously that non 50 being a standout. Clearly the umpires are less inclined to pay freekicks that would likely have an impact on the result in the last few minutes of games, whether they are there or not. Although by the same token we got very lucky with a similar incident against Adelaide with Florent being told to stand twice and running back off the mark, which we weren't punished for. Wonder if there has been a directive for the umpires to be more forgiving on that kind of incident. I wouldn't be surprised especially as I heard a lot of media commentary over the past few weeks about how much of a penalty a 50 is and how on many occasions it is too harsh.Comment

I was unaware that both the Crows & Port are not controlled by their own board but by the AFL.

Plenty of howlers in that match but the most unforgivable is the third umpire not deeming a point for a goal paid to the pies.It was very clearly touched in the replay and it makes you wonder if the AFL is lying about video reviews of every goal.

How ridiculous is this explanation from the AFL.
By their logic, you can no longer be pinged 50 for moving off the mark before play on is called, if the player with the ball moves off his line.

Collingwood were lucky with umps on Sunday, but overall, they're not a side that has gotten any favouratism from the umpiring in recent times.Comment

I'm satisfied with the explanation from the AFL. The umpire made an error by not making any call on the play. It appears that Scott played on, then changed his mind. At that moment, or sooner, the umpire had to make a call, but didn't, so the players' confusion was understandable.

I guess my real problem is when a player next week gets pinged for doing it, the explanation will be 'thems the rules'.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment
