Regardless on VFL form, I still think it is a stretch to think Hamling in an AFL Fwd

I was at the game and there was so much frustration. I have been saying for weeks now our tall forwards refuse to play in front. Amartey is absolutely useless when the ball hits the ground, and like McLean thinks he can mark from behind. The only one that plays like a forward is Logan.
Blind Freddie can see we are top heavy up forward.
So Hayward and Wicks are supposed to be pressure forwards. Wayward no tackles, Wicks one, Fox one. Some pressure, StKilda strolled out of our forward line. Our serial offender Hayward misses from 30 metres out, AGAIN.
Roberts played ahead of Adams. Sheesh. Roberts was so poor. When he did get a mark he stood there like a statue.
At half time we had about 40 more possessions more and lost that count by 16. Shows how much the pressure dropped off.
McLean misses from a metre out.
      Heeney is playing injured.
Lloyd is starting to look a passenger. Two weeks in a row he couldn't keep up.
Where was the player running past Logan?
Once again it was up to Warner to try to get us over the line.
It seems so obvious that we need the quality of Mills and Parker back now.

I thought Warner was very ordinary to be honest. One of those days where he tried too hard and made poor decisions on several occasions - a couple which cost what could have been easy goals, including a very costly one in the third quarter, that went up the other end quickly for a saints goal.

He wasn't alone in that regard, but I thought all our midfield was soundly beaten, with the exception of Grundy.

The midfield group need a solid kick up the backside this week - surely today showed that playing 70 or 80 per cent won't cut it. Didn't feel like there was much leadership in there today either.

Fox is a defender, he is Rampe V2.
1 game in Geelong about 4yrs ago has made him "versatile".

Adams as a sub was due to Fox playing as a fwd.

If Heeney is hurt and spending more time fwd it makes sense to start Adams, Fox in Defence and Roberts the sub.

Hayward has been good so I won't have a go at him but Wicks has zero, none, nothing as far as runs on the board. Are we going to be surprised every week he plays and is quiet ?

Amartey should have been dropped for getting a bath by a 19yr old defender last week.

Teams are standing off Warner now when he has the ball and making him run left, no chance of being pushed off.

Guldens dream run of no tag has ended, for months I was amazed that sides let him run unattended thru the middle.

It's always going to get harder, nothing your ever doing in June gets it done in September. We arent alone either.

There are issues on form and structure we can sort through. For example, sides are now scragging Rowie and Heeney at centre square bounces as they’d been the two best clearance players for a month. You can change your mix and set up to account for that.

If I had a worry it’s a) our inability to take a mark down the line when we’re a bit static. I’m not recommending Reid come back in given he’s cooked but it was something he did so well and sides that are willing to play ugly know it’s a weakness in our game. And b) we need to be prepared to play for space in the centre square and rarely are. It was fascinating to watch the last 10 mins of the third quarter when Grundy went stuff this, punch it 10-15-20 forward to advantage. It won’t work every time as sides will prepare for it but a bit more now and then would at least give us some reprieve.

Simple, Ladhams in, Mclean stays fwd and runs and presents more as he doesn't have to ruck. No better contested mark on our list. Rucking is ruining his time fwd.

Also a genuine ruck can shave 3 mins a qtr off Grundy having to be superman. Making his time in the middle of a higher quality.

Ladhams is a poor man's Nankervis, skilful, big body who can play below his knees.

I probably agree here. However, I always thought that he should come in when we lost a defender, but they chose Francis, even though his VFL form is good, he just doesn't cut it at AFL level where I think Hamling may as a defender for us.

There is one option that may pop up as a forward option if needed... Sam Reid played again in the VFL and got through ok. He's proven to be a decent option when fit, so don't be surprised if one of our talls continue to struggle, that Sam gets a call up from Horse...

Historically the team is very poor when its odds on to win, I dont know why but there is obviously some sort of mental issue. Hopefully this loss might make the team realise 20 good mins a game isnt anywhere near good enough.

Im worried we might see a 3rd loss in a row next week.

you mean the play he would have burst out of if he wasn’t tripped?

I hope the 2 pt loss isn't looked at like the Freo game, as 1 that we were due and we have been very good.

Saints are rubbish, blowing a 5 goal lead to them is laughable

Need a selection statement, Parker and Mills should cone straight back in, none of this VFL crap

Gulden still got plenty of the pill today. He absolutely butchered it by foot early though - turned over a number of them.

If there’s a silver lining to the loss today it’s that in 2012 the only teams we didn’t beat for the season were Richmond and the Saints.

Terrible pressure and kicking for goal today. I’m worried that we make the grand final and wilt under pressure again personally.

I only got home in time to watch the last quarter and could tell the Saints were going to win bc the Swans were marking, doing a statue for the allotted time, no overlap, then bombing it to a contest and back it came down the other end.
It was so dull and the Saints took full advantage.

Yep my brother came with me to the game and he said we played like millionaires. It reminded him of the Richmond game.
