I'm always hesitatant to have a crack at a bloke that actually gets his hands on it.

Carlton prior to this week, 5 wins in a row, Hewett has 1 bad game after 5 averaging 20 + touches and is dropped.
Those guys know you need to show up every week or there are consequences

Fair point.. it was frustrating with Gulden as several of those turnovers were kicks he can make with his eyes closed normally. Just one of those days, even those his stats in many ways were quite good.

I am looking forward to Parker and Mills being back to give options into the midfield mix, and to put some pressure on the group to perform. Certainly felt like a bit of 'we can cruise' in some of the effort today.

It was a really disappointing loss. We had
27 scoring shots and still lost. During our wins we took our chances and put teams away. We hit the post about 4 times today I think. Some of the misses were inexcusable...Papley, McLean, Hayward...I could go on and on.

That's the 3rd close game we have lost which is a concern. Today was worse because we were overrun.

Second week that Logan has missed the winning shot at goal. That won't be good for his confidence if he is in the situation again.

The Saints didn't let us get our uncontested game going. Their pressure and therefore perceived pressure caused us to make errors. As Liz mentioned, I felt we were flat footed and had to go long most of the time. There was no contested marking and the ball just came out too easily.

I still haven't seen the Heeney incident. I read in an article that the rule has changed and if you fend off to gain separation and hit the opponent high, it will be graded as intentional so you will be suspended.

We used to play so well at Marvel stadium but we have really struggled recently.

I can't imagine it's not going to have an effect on him, hopefully not a permanent case od the yips - but it's happened to others.
As to the rest of the team, have they gotten ahead of themselves?

Won every stat but total points scored. One less poster and we win.

Coaches will be having a re-set after the losses.

North next week, I watched some of their game against GC, they were very good.

parker in (no vfl) too good not to be in side and should have had some training loads to covedr lack of match practice and Mill in if he too has had enough traing (also too good not to be in snrs) Out for Roberts (poor last few games in seniors) and Wicks doent do enough. Amerty also needs game in vfl verfy poor since 9 goals hardly getting near the ball to mark it maybe Hamling for him he is kicking goals in VFL although we got him for defencive postion. LLoyd aill be lucky Henry killed him. Selectors need to MAKE CHANGES to get team back winning. Some players are becomming primadonnas. Warner trying to do too much even if he was one (if not the best) of our best. Gulden disposal is down and ithought he was asleep (i think in second qrt) when membrey kicked back into the cntre corridor and fluffed tit with Errol near the poor kick but did nt intervene and the sts got away again. As for Issacc I think he his playing hurt. Its also a pity Snell urt himself at traing cause a cnr game for him would be good . m

It might, but his kick yesterday wasn't a bad kick. For most of the way it looked like it would sneak in, and he made the distance comfortably enough. I suspect the league-wide conversion rate from that distance, especially late in games, isn't high. But the combined effect of the two kicks might still have a psychological effect on him.

I wonder about the effect on Papley and Hayward, whose two misses were far worse in terms of actual vs expected execution.

The whole team performance looks like confidence has suddenly been snuffed out. I suspect it's more complex than that, but as a start they need to find a way to recover the ability to apply high levels of pressure for much longer periods than they have in each of our three losses. Pressure is the cornerstone of the winning ways.

All the commentary has been about Sydney playing on their own terms and if you stop them from doing that and apply pressure your a chance.

Regardless of the Ladder, if teams (experts) think you can't handle pressure, your position is just fools gold.

Unfortunately they have been proven right, playing in bursts is unsustainable and the commentary on our performance is only going to get louder as no one believes we are 2 games ahead of the competition.

Saints are rubbish, blowing a 5 goal lead to them is laughable

Need a selection statement, Parker and Mills should cone straight back in, none of this VFL crap

Was at the game and the Saints were far from rubbish. Their pressure and endeavour were first class and they were desperate for a win. We were below par in terms of consistency and suffered from poor decision making. Having said that, we blew the game early in the third quarter when we were dominating but failed to capitalise through mental errors and inaccuracy. Should have been 40 pts up.

The competition is very even apart from a couple of teams. Just about every game is difficult particularly if your game is a few percentage points off. Every team has had a bad patch of form this season and we are having out turn. The teams that time their run of form during the finals will fight it out. We are still well placed for top 2 and top four.

5 goals up in cruise control and get overrun by the Saints is a joke.

You have to be able to stem the tide, if Saints put 5 on us, Pies would have put 15 on us.

On a side Note and at risk of sounding like a Horse basher, its ironic when Horse talks about a few % down and it's not good enough against anyone then openly admits playing guys that are carrying niggles, like he did when he said Mclean was sore for a month last week.

Do we have any others that are sore and can't play a 120mins ? It certainly appears that way.

Heeney has been given a 1 week suspension. I finally saw the vision of the incident today and I can't believe he was suspended for that ! I understand there was a change to the rule, but surely in this example, what Heeney did was not intentional. I would be very surprised if the swans don't challenge this.

It would be farcical if Heeney is suspended while Butters from Port Adelaide has gotten away with 3 fines for his indiscretions this season.

Re Heeney, if you look at the video and photos, the other player was bent over reaching for Heeney's crotch. Heeney swung his arm to clear the other players' arms, and his arm and hand are at ARMPIT height, not head height. There is no way he could have known the player had his head that low.

Yes the rules have changed (they keep changing all the time it seems), but it is a farce that this is a once week ban as there is no common sense interpretation that this was 'intentional' high contact. Especially after other players got off in recent rounds for worse high contact. But the AFL is famous for its (in)consistency. Look at what Clarko got for his homophobic slur (2 weeks suspended) vs Findlayson (6 weeks?).

It seems weird that they have decided that acts like this must be deemed intentional, yet they refuse to classify bumps like the Webster one on Simpkin, or Pickett's occasional jumps off the ground, where there is zero intention to contest the ball, as intentional.

Ross Lyon's comments are interesting. He says it was clearly accidental, and that Heeney didn't intend to strike Webster, but then says "do the crime, do the time". I can understand Lyon being upset a free kick wasn't paid to Webster given Heeney kicked a goal in that passage. But that's separate to suspension (and the goal turned out not to cost the Saints the game).
