Things I'd like players to work on inb pre-season

Jonathon Brown would have beaten anyone in our team on that day, its just his kicking that let him down in the later stages of the game, thus C.Bolton was made to look better than his performance actually was.

I'm not taking anything away from Bolton here, since he was playing on a guy far stronger and bulkier than himself, in the same way as he did all year. All I'm saying is that some people see that particular performance through rose coloured glasses.

I think you are actually. Certainly the end result looked better because Brown missed some goals he should have kicked. But, Brown was also much less influential as he was less involved in the play and was less of a target, which was mainly Bolton's doing.

The fact Bolton drove Brown up the ground meant that Brown had to take long shots at goal and these are harder to kick than shots closer in. Thats what Bolton did so well, he made Brown play in position on the ground that doesn't suit Brown or the Lions themselves. As we saw in the final, Brown knew that we would try it again and adjusted his game to cope with our tactic, something he couldn't do at half time.

It will be interesting to see who gets Brown in Round 1, considering all the facts

I just believe that he isn't capable to taking the likes of Carey or Jon Brown. While Schauble will take the number 1 forward each week, the same can't be said of Saddo, it really depends on who the number 2 forward is.

That is true Robbie,

He has been a very good defender for us in the past playing as the floater where he can jump from the sides and not be out bodied.

For people calling for his head etc is nonsense, this year he was riddled with injury and was not able to play to anywhere near his normal standard. Couple this with our chronic lack of big tall defenders which means he is often played on opponents any sane and rational coach would never line him up on.

Have seen him play some great games when lined up on a suitable match up and suitable position (one that comes to mind is that game at Telstra Dome against SnDon that we should never have lost, played a blinder that day on Lucas)

After watching three more of the Sydney games this season I came up with a new one:

Tadgh Kennelly: Look after the ball better when tackled. He needs to learn not to wildly handball the ball when tackled as it frequently goes to the opposition. Saw him do it at least three times in critical situations in the West Coast game for example.

What about when he got caught holding the ball and tried to 'disguise' it by punching the grass in an attempt to look like he was trying to get rid of it? That was rather comical, and he does make a few mistakes, but I do believe that he is good enough to learn from them over time as he gets to know the game better.

As for who gets Brown in Rd 1 next year, I really don't think we need to put anyone on Brown in that game, I can't see him troubling the stats sheet at all.

Yes, that was rather strange. I have no doubt that he will improve enormously in the next few years and could potentially become one of the superstars of the competition.

No, we'll just have to wait until later in the season for that one.

Rd 1 will be interesting though, with the favourite (again) meeting one of the main contenders.

There's so much more to Leaping Leo Barry

I reckon Leo's great, be breaks tackles, takes marks, spoils well, he's actually quite tough and when he runs it's amazing.

Not the actual running (he's not superfast) ~ just watch his decision making processes.

When he gets the ball and looks up, just watch his feet because they're already running in several rapidly changing and simultaneous directions at once . . . and doing so long before his brain says GO. Meanwhile he's shaping to handpass and looking in yet another direction.

He moves like a "Loony Tunes" cartoon character (Perhaps the Tazmanian devil)

Even when he runs himself into trouble trying to avoid the right foot, it's astonishing to see him manage to get out of trouble by confusing everyone.

I'm not sure the opposition will ever work him out ~ I don't think even Leo's capable of working himself out.

As to his Right Boot

He certainly had a stellar year. I really noticed how critical he was in defence doing so many different things.

As to his Right Boot
I've seen him use it in games and it's really quite good ~ I think he's just addicted to his left foot.

Yeah, I think that is it. Still, he needs to have more confidence in his right boot for the times when he needs to use it.
