Doesn't #12 (Fosdike) deserve his own thread

Another display of idiocy football by Nic Fosd*#@head on the weekend !!

Fosdike is the clumsiest twit to get drafted in the Top 10 ever. Fancy giving away a clumsy 50 metre penalty in the dying stages of the game yesterday, on top of the nowhere handball the week before against the Eagles when we were advancing out of defence two points down.

If anyone can get in touch with Paul Roos, please convey the following messages to him -

    1. Don't have Fosdike on the ground when the game is close and limited time left, as he sh*#s the bed and makes major mistakes resulting in turnovers.

    2. Give J.McVeigh more ground time and less ground time to N.Fosdike - Fosdike's no good whereas McVeigh has a big future as a midfielder.

    3. Play youngsters like McGlone, M.Davis, Willoughby, Thewlis etc etc before playing Fosdike, as he is draft fodder for next year.

    Pull your head in.
He hit O'Loughlin - playing at FF - on the chest from our half back line yesterday and hit his mark most times in kicks out of defence.
He ran all day and made some good tackles.
    Credit where credit's due.

      Top 10 for tackles.

Honestly though tackling isn't enough for someone who is supposed to be one of our premier ball winners.

If you want to continually judge someone on where they were drafted that's fine, but it isn't going to make Fosdike get to where you think he should be anytime soon. So he was a top-10 draft pick. Great. The fact is, not every top tenner is going to be an out-and-out star.

He plays a role in the team, and like everyone else has good days and bad days. I thought he did well yesterday, but know that no matter how servicable he becomes for our club, unless he suddenly transforms himself into Michael Voss v.2, then he'll never get the kudos he deserves - at least from people on this board.

Similarities to above: Darren Holmes hit Simon Minton-Connell on the chest a couple of times back in the early Nineties, ran wreally, wreally, wreally hard all day out of defence, was a great tackler ( he even caught the pig with Plugger scrawled on its back in 1994 ) - but WAS the worst VFL/AFL footballer I have seen in 30 years of watching the highest standard of football !!

Hitting O'Loughlin on the chest once, running hard and hitting a target MOST times doesn't make a smart or good footballer - composure in hitting targets on a consistent basis under immense pressure does.

I will give credit to Fosdike when he stands up and delivers in pressure situations when it is all or nothing - he hasn't done this yet.

I will not accept ordinary footballers in the Swans team - it has been going on far too long. Pull your head out and realise that there are ordinary footballers at the Swans who have been tried and tested but just don't cut it !

I want success and I want it now - not the year after next or the year after the next year. God knows we have been waiting far too long as it is.

He and Fiora would be arguably the worst two number three picks ever.

I was just about to post that. Fiora and Fosdike are two real stand outs as draft stuff ups in the past half-dozen years.

Earlier this year I nominated Fosdike as my love child - just out of hope.

He has shown glimpses in the past, but it seems to me that his performances are degenerating if anything.

There is no way we could ever win a premiership with him as our Number 2 attacking midfielder -- doubly so with JBolton as Number 1 -- if he dosen't step up real soon.

Actually I reckon they pale into insignificance compared to some others.

Danny Roach (no7), Murray Vance (no 5 or 6), Brandon Hill (no 10) played 1 game between them before being delisted. Laurence Angwin's woes have been well documented and although these are more to do with personal issues than football ability, Crows fans seem to think that there were signs that he was a troubled soul well before he was drafted.

Even just on no 3 picks, Alan Didak and Trent Croad have done no more yet than Fiora or Fosdike. Fosdike's contribution to yesterday's game was probably no worse than Croad's, even allowing for his two late goals (remembering that Fosdike's two goals last week were not deemed sufficient to "redeem" him).

There is a difference between Didak/Croad vs Fiora/Fosdike. Didak and Croad at least have some qualities that the opposition would fear. Fiora and Fosdike have none. That is the part of talent identification.

Of course, Croad and Didak have not delivered to their promises. That is a different ball game, however. More or less to do with the talent nurturing.

It seems our scouts have a bad reputation with identifying midfield players. Luke Ablett was rated as a top 20 pick by them, presumably as a midfielder, Bolton and Fosdike as top ten. All are not up to the promise and I believe the jury has been in.

Totally agree Newbie, Croad and Didak have weapons, Fosdike and Fiora are run of the mill. However I would suggest Fiora is the worst as he basically is very soft and plays off a half back flank yet still turns the ball over. Also Richmond passed up Pavlich for him yet Fosdike was #3 in a weakish draft. The glaring error was not to take Hayes over him, though Lenny while a prolific ball-getter is not over pacy or is not over-endowed with super skills so the decision was justifiable. Ramanaukus also went at #12 but I think he is a very overrated player.

I would trade Fosdike for Croad anyday.

Fosdike = run of mill and nothing else

Croad = Key position and potential to be very very good

Trouble is Croak has had potential for too many years now, thats why the Hawks offloaded him in the first place, he just never produced what many thought he could.

I wouldnt take Croad over Fozzie. First, Hawthorn send him packing to Freo, and then Freo decide to send him back. If that doesnt tell you he's a dud, then I dont know what will.

No, you're right - many of them are duds.

However, what is frustrating is that one of the reasons St Kilda is doing so well is the great performance of their high draft picks. We have a few high draft picks in our team, but they aren't performing nearly as well.
