I think the key word is CAPABLE.

Obviously the Age scribe here wrote this about Fosdike for the following reasons -

Fozzie is a hard runner, and after watching the tape for the second time, his skills arent THAT bad. A few very good 35+m kicks to moving targets on the run. Just needs to get more of the ball.

Watch a Collingwood game this season and you will really see how terrible skills can be.

The absurdly negative comments on Fosdike seem like just another intemperate Swans brain fart ~ indeed they would have fitted in well with numerous previous Swans administrations.

I didn't know Roosy's game plan for the TEAM was to make clumsy errors, handball to an opponent in defence when the game is close, miss targets from 25-30 metres away, have pot shots and miss from 55 metres out when there are forwards ( read Hall, Davis, O'Loughlin ) on the lead on there own 30 metres out, @@@@ yourself under pressure and not be accountable for your opponent when playing on the ball !!!

Name one good quality in Fosdike that sets him apart from any other footballer ? Absolutely f@#*en ZIP.

I will NOT accept an unaccountable, undisciplined, weak of mind and woeful of disposal footballer such as Nic Fosdike at the Sydney Swans any longer - the sooner Fosdike is traded the better.

Now, if we want to talk about footballers at the Swans that I am in awe of and see a great future in, Adam Schneider is the man - beautifully long and accurate left foot kick, great goal sense, pace, knows how to get the ball a la Greg Williams, courage and the ultimate team player with a chance to be a future onballer and Captain. I just hope those hammy's won't bring him down and lose his pace !!

You can't expect the team to be full of champions... Fosdike is a good footballer.

He may not be worth the pick we got him for (we could have had Hayes) but draft picks have changed since 98 you can't expect a Judd or Pavlich with every top 5 pick.

Fosdikes errors look to me at least, more like a lack of composure than lack of guts (an AFL version of "spending it before getting it").

I see no evidence whatsoever that Nick is following "The Fosdike Way" and seeing he hasn't been dropped I doubt that Roos doses either.

Like BRB says, they can't all be champions. Indeed how can you fit a team into a salary cap?

Indeed Jarred Crouch, while he's a competent small backman, he was far too good a draft choice for that position.
Matthew Nicks is clearly passed it as have Williams and Maxfield.

MickyO only plays half a dozen games a year so he's not earning his money. Speaking of injuries ditch James, Schauble and Fixter they'll never come good.

Seems some people learnt nothing from last year?

The Swans picked up no big name recruits except Nick (lost Kelly, Dunkley and Schwass) and yet got within a quarter of the grand final!

Composure is something one could learn with experience. With 100 games under his belt, Fosdike does not have the exposure expected of an AFL player. Enough said.

The tackle count is somewhat misleading. If you watch Fosdike closely. Whenever there is a 50-50 contest, he would WAIT for his opposition to get the ball first and then tackle him. That explains his high tackle count. However we dont win unless we get to the ball first. With the defensive midset he is going into 50-50 contest, at best he could break even, i.e., cause a ball-up in the contest. For a ball winner , it is simply not good enough.

Another measure we could look at, is what sort of player, he is for a runner. That is the role, he is in the team for. Kennelly is 70-metre player as he could run fast for about 20m and kick long for about 50m with accurate. Fosdike is about 40m player, he could run 10m and kick with some accuracy for about 30m or he could run 20m and kick OKish for another 20m. I notice that whenever he tries to kick long after a long run, the kick often wobbles. Very frustrating to watch.
