I think discussions of player trades brings out the most atavistic comments from Swans fans,
Just imagine what the fans of Richmond, Collingwood etc. must be like in this mode.

Incidentally reports suugest many recruiters expect this years draft to be a bumper crop! Comparable to the Judd, Hodge, Ball draft.

I think we will be in a decent position to trade this year, because we dont necessarily have to hold onto our 1st round draft pick, since we have taken a few good young guys in the last 2 years. As such I think we can use it as leverage to get a decent trade.

For ruckman in particular and on ballers yes, for KP players the draft is light on according to the guru Kevin Sheehan.

i think we will have a strong chance to get Ray Hall next season hes only on a 1 year deal and was set to come to us this year during trade week but richmond screwed it up... He wants to come back to Sydney and he need a player like him... he played extremly well against us at the SCG and would be a handy pick up for us....

Out of the whols original list Ray is probably most likely to come to Sydney

Ray Hall is a hack ! I wouldn't trade any senior player for him. We have plenty of our own mediocre players who need "some good guidance", we don't need another.

I was wondering if everyone has given up on Heath James as the key defender everyone wants him to be.

No I haven't. Heath was supposed to be the long term replacement for Dunks, and I may have overexpected from him this year. A full pre-season and valuable experience from this year will see him good.

Wrong, he signed a two year deal with Richmond and from all reports is a required player for the rebuild of the defence next season. So count him out.

As for those named so far on this thread only Staker is a player who interests me and there is no chance West Coast will be letting him go, unless he walked out of them at the end of his contract. Plus if he was to go to the major city closest to Broken Hill, he'll be joining either the Crows or Port.

Haven't given up just readjusted my thinking after seeing him aganist the west coast I realised that he has alot of work to do as I said at the time he looked like he was drunk on the ground and seemed to continualy lose site of his player I think a full preseason and continual work on his game can see him be a player just needs confidence and guidance imo.

Havn't we learnt this lesson many times over - painfully I might add - Smart teams don't part with their first round draft picks - especially if they only have one and it is late-ish .

I think its important we hang on to our draft picks, but then we are going to have to give up a player. Most other sides don't really rate our young players, for example trying to trade a thewlis or a powell would be useless, after putting all the hard work into a player like powell it would be a shame to give him up for basically nothing (re. scott stevens.). Im of the opinion that ray hall could be a bit like craig bolton, not fantastic but definitely very useful. And i think we should be desperate to get him, eg. an early draft pick probably second round, or a player, like fosdike.

The need to get a decent key position player in is magnified by the fact that sadidngtong will be of little use next year. I don't want to sound desperate, but we just need somebody. Imagine if leo barry or craig bolton got injured, we'd be stuffed. Goodesy plays on forwards like they are leppers, schauble is injury prone, heath james seems down on confidence ever since the melbourne game, up until then I thought he was our savour, and I think either persisting with him, or getting someone like hall will answer our problems.

Cannot agree that it is a good idea to draft an ordinary KPP under any circumstances.

Ray Hall has looked to be lacking any class at all. If we can't get Rivers/Scarlett/McPhee sort of talent then take a punt on a draft pick. If we really need to we will play James, Rogers, Powell, Davis, O'Keefe or LRT as key defenders rather than Henneman (who is no good at all...didn't you guys see last week's game).

Agree that Staker/MacDougall/Schulz/Playfair/Beasey/Bock all look pretty good. So if any are available they are worth buying.

I'm very excited about our midfield prospects. One gun out of McVeigh/Willoughby/Schmidt/McGlone/Malceski and we will be right, when you consider we have Jude, Captain, Schneids, Davis, Ablett, Monty, C. Bolton, O'Keefe, Mathews, Crouch, Bevansy, Thelwis and Sunny.

That's not a bad list to get 6 players from for the midfield.

(I'm discounting the senior citizens and Fossy who is being outperformed at the moment)

What about Maguire? He's a gun and the Saints have stacks of good players, what's one less?
