I would be willing to trade Kennelly, I think he is highly over rated and can't see him improving any further, and would also consider trading Saddington, who in my opinion should of been traded a year or two ago.

    Fire away

Bit harsh suggesting Kennelly can't improve further given the number of years he's been playing the game

Just my thoughts, I really hope he proves me wrong.

Unfortunately Saddington is damaged goods for this years trading period.I think Kennelly still has plenty of upside preferably as a hard running winger who delivers into the forward line or kicks goals. His contested marking has improved. He has been injured this year so I find it hard to be critical of him.

We know that if we want quality, we need to trade established players. To trade an established player, we must be confident that we could cover him. Who do we have to cover for Kennelly? I could not think of anyone. On the other hands, we have abundance of small defensive midfielders/defenders thus we could cover if we send one away. Defensive midfielders/defenders dont usually command much in trades, however there seems to be an interest of them this year and thus the offer could be more than usual. This would be our chance to get something decent in return. The demand for this type of players is rarely high so this could be our only chance for a while.

            Foods for thought:
            - Richmond's rebuilding would need a role model and Crouch fits that bill
            - Bulldogs midfield needs a holding player, Mathews fits it like a glove.

Who would we want from Richmond or the Bulldogs?I think Mathews would refuse to go if such a scenario ever came to being.

The question is what would want from Richmond or the Bulldogs, not who - what ? Answer - Draft picks to either be used or on traded.

Richmond are rebuilding and after making the mistake of topping up an overrated list with mature players a few years ago will not trade draft picks. The Bulldogs are going broke so they will not trade draft picks for well paid players even if they are preferred over kids.

When a team rebuilds, it is not about getting ten kids and hope for them to develop and carry the club forward. It is about getting the environment right as well as getting the kids. Delisting ten players and replacing them with ten kids are not rebuilding. Getting some players from other clubs who bring different culture, attributes to the club is as crucial as getting new kids. Crouch fits that bill. Crouch is a displine with great work ethic and commitment. Given the image Richmond has right now, Crouch would be an excellent addition to the Richmond' rebuilding process. He would be a great role model for the young draftees. That is the beauty of it.

Bulldogs broke does not mean they can not afford Mathews. They could afford Rawlings last year. Their midfielders are most young with spark but lack that gelling character. Mathews excels in that position. I would think, Bulldogs would have jumped straight at Mathews if we decide to offer him to them. Mathews salary is probably about average for an AFL player. If they could not afford him, they are drop-dead.

I think you made a good case for Crouch to stay considering we have a stack of young players who could do with his guidance plus he is having a good year.He is not just a tagger these days he is accumulating posessions and kicking goals. He is a keeper.IMHO

mathews and crouch have both dramatically improved this year and are really damaging sides with their possessions; this was a major gripe for mine about the both of them last year...

furthermore, mathews is a NSW boy, we need to hang on to all of the quality ones

fozzie is about our only trade commodity this year IMO

We cannot have it both ways. Our culture has been pretty good with pretty good heads around the club. BBBH is one. O'Keefe is emerging as another. Bevan, Barry, Kirk and Maxfield are all hard delicated workers. James is inspirational. Fixter is pretty committed. It has never been our weak point. We need to give something to get something. Could we cover Crouch's lost? I certainly think so.

I must have missed something there . . . how would trading Crouch to Richmond benefit the Swans?

I can see that Richmond would jump at the opportunity, especially if Rocket gets the coaching job, but who could they offer that is as good as Crouch?

                            Ottens? Brown? Richo? Anyone else??

And why would we want to trade for a draft pick? We've got draft picks already. Crouch was a first round draftee, and he's played every game since debut. What are the chances of drafting better than that?

And you could probably make a similar case for Mathews.

There must be some sense here somewhere . . . but I can't quite see it.

I would hate to see either Crouch or Mathews traded - I think they are long-term leaders for the club.

Mathews,Crouch and Kennely to me should be career swans all to valuable to out teams make up.
