    B1 worth ~$300K pa??

    What do you think???

"Sydney have been in negotiations with Bolton and his manager Ron Joseph for several months, and he's likely to sign a three-year contract early next week for a sum approaching $1 million."

You never know where they get these figures from but assuming it's close is it reasonable? On the back of only one really good season and a slow start this year you would think it might be a little high BUT at the same time you would be hoping for more improvement and even better/more valuable output over the next few years so maybe it's not too bad.

If he's worth $300K, then $6-700K for Judd is not unreasonable!! FFS!!

No idea, sounds a lot though. I guess he is marketable etc also, which has to be taken into account.

I never want to hear "Why don't you play for the swans if you can do better" when someone complains about a player again! 300 grand is a hell of a lot of money to get paid for doing something you love.

It's not a lot of money if the out put is worth it, but it seems a liitle high for what he has acheived so far. Then again he is the only true in and under midfeilder we have I suppose so I guess they can not risk losing him by waiting till the draft to resign him.

            Hmm... he's not worth it.

But then, all players are in my opinion payed about twice what they are worth. The salary cap is way too high... it has to go to someone.

So, in the context of overinflated salaries in general... this is probably only a small amount over the odds - and that would be in order to take into account expectations over the next three years.

Jude Bolton is worth 300,000 in relation to what we hear other players are played.

plus he hasnt hit his peak yet

Considering prices reportedly paid for other players I don't find it too painfully over priced. There is the cost of living/want to go home factor to consider as well, it has to be added on top of whatever his salary would be elsewhere... unless we really do just give all the extra money to Barry...
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Then pay him a lot when he's closer to hitting his peak.

The problem with that, though, is that players aren't paid according to performance.

A 20 year old first round draft pick with 25 games to his name can conceivably demand $400,000 a season, despite the fact there is no way his current level of performance justifies it.

The club, in that instance, pays in the short term for the privilege of presumedly having him in the longer term.

AFL footballers are a futures market. That, at least partly, is how they have come up with Jude's price tag.

By the way, this is Jude's peak contract. If he wants to get similar money next time around, his next three years - where he'll be 25 to 27 - will decide whether he gets that. This is his last contract as an investment player.

Well he'd better bloody improve then as he's nowhere near a $300K player at the moment!

BTW - punting on futures is a very risky proposition so I can see why most AFL clubs are always skirting bankruptcy!!

If that's all you think he is you really don't watch very closely.

Kirk is ahead of Bolton on hard ball gets and clearances, same on disposals, as well as being able to stop his man and have more tackles.

If Bolton is worth $300K then Kirk is worth $400K!

Kirk is more than a tagger. He's a great in and under midfielder who gets plenty of his own possessions and scores goals as well. Many clubs would love to have in their team and if he was in Melbourne he would have much higher profile.
