Originally posted by chammond There was no point in commenting on your analysis . . . you were not presenting any new facts, merely providing more opinion. And of course any further analysis you do will come up with the same outcome, because your opinions will get in the way. I could describe those same quarters to back up my own opinion . . . what would that change?
I'm not stating that your opinion is wrong . . . by definition, opinions can't be right or wrong.
I've certainly got no wish to change your opinion . . . I'm stating a contrary opinion, which I believe is backed up by facts.
All that was fine until the last when you virtually say that your opinion is right because it is backed up by 'facts' (whatever they may be)...
No it doesn't . . . . best on ground means best on ground. If every player plays crap, then the BOG will also have played crap . . . "critical factor" and "outstandingly well" have got nothing to do with it. You just have to be best on ground!
But you rarely get 44 players who are crap!
All opinions are valid . . . except people who leave Vic to live in WA . . . the opinions of such people are highly suspect and should generally be disregarded!
See I'd have to agree with this even though you have no facts to back it up!!

i can assume that i'm with NMDub on this but we dont question his endeavour or application. we question people's opinion of him. that is, he is a battler at best...
Originally posted by NMWBloods I also note that when I went to the effort of describing everything he did in the previous game to illustrate my views, those who do think Bolton was great last week didn't comment.
I certainly fall into the "couldn't be bothered category". I watched a few minutes of the final quarter of the Freo game yesterday afternoon, mostly just to watch Tagdh's goal again before I set the video to tape over that game. In a five minute period in that final quarter I counted three disposals from Jude that went directly to a Swans team mate and were instrumental in setting up a play. One of these he'd won from a free that he earned by his attack on the contest.
Yet your analysis was that he had one good disposal for that quarter.
So what you see as facts "describing" his efforts was - in my eyes - just your spin on things. Given the rabble that were the Swans last week, he was probably as good as any other and your possession by possession analysis did not concur with my opinion of the contribution he made.
I don't fit into the 'Jude is a superstar' category and don't think he had a fantastic game against the Dockers - merely a serviceable one. I do think he is a very valuable member of the Swans team and reckon that almost any other team in the league would love to get their hands on him. Within the context of wages earned by AFL players I have no problem if the reports of his new contract are correct.

Yep - the rest were just okay and as expected. I divided disposals into good, expected and bad. For example receiving a handball and then immediately giving it off to someone running past. In the open and short passing 20m to someone. These are basic things I expect all AFL footbalelrs to be able to do.

And serviceable is how I have described him in a number of his games. He is useful, but rarely BOG.
