We obviously need a ruckman and the Ottens deal looks like its not going to fall our way so at least we've got somebody.

We can only wait until next year I suppose.
Yeah my Demon mad boss is p*ssed off that he is leaving the demons at all.

Time will tell who has won out of it.

Well, I doubt we will even be chasing Ottens anymore - we don't need another ruckman now.

Probably a bit over the odds for Jolly, but really, we can't wait for Ericksen and we weren't going to pick up a kid in the draft to play this year. This gives us good ruck depth if Ball/Doyle get injured and Jolly might blossom with more time on the ball.

Only way we will get Ottens now is through the PSD.

Jolly will be more useful to us next year than Kepler Bradley is for Essendon.

Our 1st round picks is hardly quality. What is it, about 17th ??

Jolly is worth a good 2nd round pick IMO, so for us it was always going to be our bad 1st rounder or a fringe player + 2nd rounder.

It will be a great trade if we can snare a decent midfielder as well.
On its own is nothing fantastic.

              So... Jolly is ours, huh?

I guess that means we've given up on Ottens. I don't think giving up pick 15 is MUCH more than giving up Fosdike. Jury will be out for now, but if he establishes himself as a regular 22 player, it will be a good get.

              What is he, 21?

Teams don't usually give up their first round picks unless they get quality - What does the Footy world class Jolly as...at best up and comer (I kept reading to see if we had got anything else - must be another trade in the pipelines?)

If this is our only trade then I would feel we haven't had a very successful or "aggressive" result.

I must qualify this though in saying I did not see Jolly in all of his
                7 Games this year!

Jolly will be 23 in December I think so he SHOULD be a 5 year player hopefully.

There is no way we would have gotten someone with pick 15 who could have played 1st ruck this year. I reckon Jolly may be 'thrown to the wolves' early in the season with Bally coming off the bench and Doyle sitting at FF - could be a plan.

Lets see him play a few games before we judge whether we have 'won or lost' on the deal.

                        Cheers.

Still, that's a 10 year ruckman for us if he turns out all right. The important part is that he'll be ready next year. If we used pick 15 on a young ruckman, he wouldn't be really ready for 2 or 3 years after Ball retires.

I'm not rapt but I'm not devastated, either. I'll wait and see.

As for a midfielder - well, there simply isn't one who's obviously available.

Over at Big Footy everyone is saying that Sydney has been ripped off bigtime with this trade. Still it's probably better than giving up half the team to get Ottens.

Pretty big lad at 200cm and 100kg. Will give us options next year but definitely the club was thinking ahead and he will be Ball's replacement when he retires.

Look at his stats for 2004.

Jolly is not the player going to carry our premership ruck hopes.

He is a servicable, second string ruckman. That's it.

                              We have been shafted badly.

Remember that the talk this year is that its a thin draft - would we have necessarily gotten a highly rated kid with #15....maybe, but probably not. They did what they had to do to make something happen while realising Ottens was an unlikely trade for us.

                                I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
