Exactly, what is the point of bombing it in long for a pack of 20 players to smash into each other. The only thing that comes out of that are stupid injuries.

If Hawthorn wanted to stack our forward 50 with 18 players, we are more than entitled to play kick to kick for the last 2 minutes of the game.

One thing is for sure, it showed with the crowd booing at the end they still have a little way to go to understand some of the more subtle parts of the game.

Nice to see we finally have another proper mobile ruckman - pleased with Jolly's performance.

Doyle looked like he'd hurt his ankle.

Davis looked very dangerous.

Bevan looks like he will continue his good form from last year.

Crowd was a bit silly at the end. Then again I was disappointed we turned it over and didn't have too many options. Why not run a play to set up Davis just outside 50 so he can have a long set shot?

Hawks weren't really much competition - should comfortably finish bottom this year. Much bigger test for us next week (and the following weeks too).

Yes I thought about injuries myself but I can see why the crowd gets frustrated. And it does prove how meaningless some of the stats are.

Not perfect, but pleasing. The last two minutes were embarassing, though.

jolly stepped way past him. But i think the three ruckman worked well together today, time will tell, lrt was good in small patches and goodes seemed to be commig back.


As for the last two minutes we should of done something but the embarrasing part was the swans supporters booing

A few notes from the television coverage:
* The phrase "Alice Band" got used by Denis Commetti when referring to Ryan O'Keefe in the 3rd quarter.
* The phrase "challenge for the premiership" was used once.
* Jolly looked very good. His 3 goals for the game was his best ever in a single game. Welcome to Sydney.
* The Swans kept Hawthorn to their lowest score on the SCG.
* The win was the Swans' biggest over Hawthorn since 1980.

Bring on the Roos. It should be a good game next week.

An OK performance against an absolutely woeful opponent. 'Tis going to be a long long year for Hawks fans.

Bit of over-use and phaffing around in the forward 50 but a few cobwebs at the start of the year are to be expected, and most teams have looked rusty with their skills this weekend.

Davis was superb, especially given that he must still be some way off being fit.

Kirk, Williams, Bolton, Mathews all looked good through the midfield. Didn't notice Schneider much but probably looked different on TV.

Felt a bit for young Monty - everything he touched seem to turn to stone. But he battled on well which is pretty important for a younger player when they're not having a great game.

ROK reminded us what a very good mark he is late in the game.

Did Baz get his entire FK quota for the year in one afternoon?

Pretty happy with the overall performance. Very tired from my son who looks like he will average about 17 questions more per quarter than he did last season.

Davis was fantastic, especially considering that, as Liz mentioned, he is behind the other guys with the limited pre-season. He chased and put pressure on, was unselfish. Good, good stuff.

Jolly was great all around the ground.

Quick note on McVeigh- not sure if they mentioned it for those playing at home but he was staring directly into the sun when he dropped the chest mark towards the end where it looked like he heard footsteps (just before he followed it up with a good snap for goal).

Ben Mathews seemed more comfortable with the ball this year than he did last (which might just be that my perception of him has changed).

Kirky seemed a bit quiet, not that he needed to do much.

Pretty warm day, the midfielders were rotated heavily through the bench.

That's what it looked like on tele (ie the sun, not footsteps).

Baz got two or three frees that I saw, all were clearly there.
* tackled when not in possession
* illegal spoiling in marking contest (opp dragged Bazza's arm down)

Shame he wasn't as accurate as usual but at least he's getting frees

A few thoughts from my vantage point on the O'Reilly wing (will probably change after I see the replay).

- Jolly made a great start - hopefully he can continue that for a while to come. More mobile than Doyle, and better skills too.
- Craig Bolton was great through the first three quarters but drifted out of the game in the last.
- Hopefully Nick Davis can stay injury free; he provides us with so much balance up forward and allows O'Keefe to use his overhead marking ability further up the ground. Good to see him (Davis) chasing hard early on while the game was still there to be won.
- We probably played only one eighth of good footy (first half of 2nd quarter) when we blew the game open and that was that.
- LRT probably isn't the answer to a CHB question. He will probably get a continued run until Schaubs comes back, but didn't look to have the goods - got beaten fairly comfortably by Holland who is well past his best.
- Goodes is not the answer to our CHB question either! He provides us with so much more when he is free to drift pretty uch wherever he likes.

Overall, not a brilliant performance, but I'll take a 10 goal win. Its often difficult to really play at your best against a weak opponent simply because you will drop your standards at least a little down to the opposition. We should get a much better indicator of where we're at in the next few weeks.

Disagree. LRT have a very good first three quarters, and tired in the last.

He has a solid and large body, good footy brain, and plenty of run. Give him time, as KPPs like that dont always magically appear (Rivers withstanding).

Agree with a lot that has been said already.

Is hard to really know what to take from today - although I was satisfied that we were able to extend our winning margin in the last few minutes, in previous seasons, we have been a bit too happy to just win.

Probably could have won by more, but it is 4 points, our first win since 2004 and we are on top of the ladder! (Will have to cut it out of the paper for my desk at work!)
