Even his most obvious blunder yesterday - when he ran straight into the tackler - came about, I reckon, because he was trying not to take the easy option - a sideways handball - and looking for something more constructive.

As it happens, the sideways handball (to Maxfield?) was a good option, and what he actually did was a terrible option! But too often you see younger players overly anxious to pass the ball off quickly, especially to the highly experienced players, without trying to be constructive with what they do.

That is letting him off the hook. He was either selfish and trying to be a hero or he didn't know what to to do with agot. He did the same thing last year and clearly hasn't learned.

But what about Bevan's superb tackle near the Bradman Stand? No one else has mentioned it. I thought it was awesome and one of the best tackles you will ever see.

We got a good view of it from up in the MA Noble. It was a terrific tackle. The TV commentators drew attention to his rugby league background when the made it.

Watched it late late late last night. Good stuff I saw when the storm in Perth wasn't making Foxtel flake out:

The boys had mongrel! Bolton (J) faced off with Spider!
Goodes looks great! He moved in something other than a straight line and could change speed!
          ROK's chase and tackle!
          Davis' chasing!
Five guys running down the field together and sharing the ball and they were SWANS!
A winning team playing kick to kick in the final minute and it was the SWANS!
Bolton (J) kicked a goal on the run! Is this a first?
Jolly! A missing piece of the puzzle slots into place.

          Things that needed attention:

LRT's clangers -> Someone needs to calm him down!
          The appallingly bad banner message.
Buchanon is going to injure himself the way he throws his body around!

There was a lot more Physical stuff going on from our boys, and the word mongrel did come to mind.

On the Bolton (J) front, as a rule I don't get a good feeling from his kicking for goal on the run but he didn't even look like he was going to miss it on the W/E.

Just a question re umpiring. Can a central umpire call a ball out of bounds?I was wondering because there was a case where the field umpire was 1 metre away from the action when the ball went out yet he turned around looking for the boundary umpire who was 30 metres away to make the decision. Was this just professional courtesy or is he not allowed to make a decision re out of bounds?

It was almost a carbon copy of the winning goal he kicked against the Hawks last year.

                    According to this:

"The field Umpires shall officiate and have full control of a Match."

                    but also

"the duties of a boundary Umpire include ... judging whether a football is Out of Bounds or Out of Bounds on the Full and signalling to the field Umpire when that has occurred"

I reckon the field umpire wasn't happy with the throw-ins so he was being a bitch to let the boundary Umpire know. Office politics

Thanks for that. The throw ins were awful. The ruckmen were taking them off their bootlaces.Bring in the Wizard Cup rule where boundary umpires comes in 10 metres.

I thought so too, he got belted, squashed and then sat on by Spided Everitt, his shot at goal missed his general disposal was off. But he just kept trying hard, tackling like mad.
He made the absolutely best out of a day when everything went to poo for him personally.

LRT plays well at CHB in the pre-season, then get's towelled up by Holland and it's a failed experiment.

On another matter, making friends is one thing but Nick Davis tneeds to take his shots at goal, twice he had set shots inside 50m and passed to Willo. On one occasion we lost the ball and on the other Willo recovered and managed the snap!

                            Lots of good stuff here.

Can't bag Monty for his attack on the footer - he got crunched badly a couple of times and I would imagine have a pretty sore head. Jolley did well, B1 & B2 did well, Davis was great. Makes a difference, doesn't he? Willo...by heavens I hope he hangs around for a while.

Other things - let's not complain about a ten goal win. Sure we may have got more, but steady on.
The kick to kick: couldn't give a rats toss. You come unstuck in these scenarios when there is pressure placed on you. There was none. We weren't the team who was ten goals down at the time....
Good to win without significant contris from Hall (although he was good, he didn't dominate) Kirk (good tagging role, but less of his attacking plays) Maxy (forget about that one fella), and Kennelly who was flashy occasionally but just did what he needed to.

Much tougher ask this week. Let's focus on that.

much tougher ask every week til round 22 when we play them again. Hawks are the worst side in the league, though richmond run close it seems. I tip them to have a 0 all draw this week

I think virtually any time inside 50 from a set shot, except on a very sharp angle or where someone is straight in front and completely clear, Davis should take a shot.
