Apparently the UNSW platinum team has withdrawn and will merge with the Power Div 2 team.

UNSW's hubris exposed, pulling out of PlatReserves last minute now Platinum too, they were 7 wins 8 losses and a draw last year in MD1, was always going to be a reach for them.
Funnily enough, looking at the standard of PlatinumReserves they perhaps would have been successful in there with their MD2 team who won the flag last season.

Their MD1 2023 team fielded just 18 players on the weekend. From 3 competitive mens teams in divisional grades last year down to 1.8

Be interesting to see how unsw go in div1 & div2
Could work out well or be a disaster if they still get beat

Proactive and congrats to Power (courtesy of FB):

Our mens 3rd grade side (Div2) has had 2 forfeits in the first 4 weeks of the season due to injury, travel and unavailability.
In order to ensure the viability of this team for season 2023, we have come to an agreement with UNSW, who are in a similar position, to create a joint venture in mens Div 2 commencing this week. UNSW will withdraw from Platinum division completely.
Div 2 games will be split between Waratah and Dave Philips oval, with the majority being at Waratah – including this week. The draw for the balance of the season will be updated over the coming week.
Nominally, there will be 11 players from Power and 11 from UNSW though this will be discussed weekly based on availability. We will prioritise players that have paid full rego for the season and can then look at others that have registered for reduced games. We will ensure we try to be as equitable as possible. Craig Hains will continue to take the reins in coordinating the team for game day.
While not our 1st preference, I believe this is a good solution to ensure everybody can continue to get a game of footy in each weekend and we hope to return to our own standalone side in 2024.

Surely you can just drop down now if AFL are letting teams drop 2 divisions mid season. They only got beat by 3 goals last week in platinum.

Anyone else want to go down 2 divisions?

I'd happily drop 1 or 2 today. For a large clubs 3rd or 4th grade to cop a season of hidings, thats OK, they'll be around next year as a club. For us, it's dire and hard enough to retain and attract players when we are winning, although last year was the biggest challenge we've ever faced. This year, we have no depth and introducing players to the game.

Not that I agree with dropping grades but think SAFL made some bad decisions at start of season

The problem with promotion and relegation of your 3rd, 4th or 5th teams for Uni, NS, Penno etc is that so many variations can occur year to year that it makes last year's performance not a true and accurate representation of what this years will be. (This is different to your 1st or 2nds).

In an ideal (and honest world) each club President should indicate where they believe their 3rd, 4th or 5th team should play at the start of the season. Clubs know what their lists will look like around Feb.

This may see a club like NS have multiple teams in Div 1 or Div 2 and no Team in Div 3 and have another club have 2 teams in Div 3 and no team in Div 2.

This would make a far more even competition. Alternatively, follow the junior leagues and for the lower divisions have the first 3 or 4 rounds as grading rounds and then redo the fixture for the lower Divisions. Either way, the lower divisions need to have some intelligent planning to ensure we don't have teams winning by 100 or losing by a 100 all season.

You only got beat by 26 goals against a team 2 divisions above Pekay, not bad.

Surely heads have to roll at Sydney afl over this........

Do you think they will drop Southern power from women's prems with the massive loses they are having

Today was our best hope for a win - we were playing the team below us. It was completely demoralising. And we didn't give up all day which I'm not sure is better or worse. Very difficult day for the club

Would be inevitable, if not straight away, at the end of the season. Dragons have enough teams and talent to move up into Prems so that southern Sydney is represented. Will align with head office’s vision for the competition too.
