We still have Taylor Adams on our list who has a year remaining on his contract. Oliver will be 29 next year and worried he could be a similar story. Why do Melbourne think he's no longer a viable midfielder? Goodwin will be in the best position to advise the club if we we're at all interested, as i do have my doubts.

Not surprised Curnow's options has now been narrowed to us. Is his heart really in it to play for us? Think it will require a 3 way trade with us departing with our first round picks and another club offloading a star speedy midfielder to Carlton. News that Carlton is now out of the race for Flanders makes that increasingly diifficult. I don't think Rowbottom is in the mix, as i reckon too much has been made of uncle BT's comment. The ball is in Charlie's court with his manager if they want to make this happen.

Think Curnow will remain at Carlton due to the increasing complexity, but hope it doesn't drag out all through the trade period as we have other targets/needs to focus on.

And I would say the coach is waiting for Curnow to nominate us if in fact he does. I think it's smart to move on Hayward if there is a chance to add a better chess piece and if it doesn't happen happy enough to keep Hayward.

Sydney's needs will need to be considered as well. Sydney needs picks to match Academy bids this year and may need a pick to acquire Rosas from the Suns.

So a possible trade:
Sydney gives up a player and a future first-round pick
Carlton gives up Curnow and a third-round pick (currently 48).

Pick 48 can then be offered to the Suns for Rosas.

I think you are close to the mark, but in my opinion this years first round draft pick and a player will do it for Curnow. Highly unlikely that the academy kids will be in the top 20 of the draft so we should have at least two of them covered with the likelihood the others will fall through to a late pick or rookie pick

I think this might be playing out in your head more than reality, I think you will find players (people) adapt very quickly once acceptance of a new reality is realised.

I was thinking the same I don't ever think he was more than serviceable fwd and I am not sure playing in the ruck hurt him much.

Then it makes no sense that he sat in front if Ladhams, Green and Buller all year with very little effect.

I don't think so. I don't want a player who doesn't want to be with us. Rocca was enough. Are you old enough to remember him? We took Anthony Rocca in the 1994 Draft. He told us upon coming to us that he would, not just prefer, but would only play well for Collingwood. He wasn't wrong. He played 22 games in two seasons and actually laid down in a match against the Pies. He was capable of kicking multiple goals but only kicked 11 in his 22 games for us. He was a waste of space and we should never have drafted him. With Curnow we have the choice NOT to take him. He has nominated Geelong as his preferred destination. He is a Cats fan.

My point is I would prefer not to take the risk on a player who wants to play for the opposition.

This is a change for us. We don't normally offer players as trade bait. It has been our policy not to do that but to tell the player concerned to nominate for the trade period. We normally offer up picks. The last players we basically told they were going to another club were; Dempster and Schneider due to us having to dump salary. That was a really bad list decision and we have not repeated it. The players were not happy with that situation.

One of either King or Carmichael probably will probably be in the top 20.

Rowan Marshall (St Kilda) has requested a trade to Geelong, and it is likely that this trade will require Geelong to give up a first-round pick because Marshall is contracted for two years. I don't see how Geelong can manage to recruit Curnow as well. At best they're not going to have any first-round picks left before 2028 unless they give up a first-18 player. They used no first-round picks last year and need to hold on to two of their next three to meet the two first-round picks in four years rule. So they can only trade out one first-round pick. Geelong can trade for Marshall or Curnow, not both, unless something changes.

I only suggested giving up a player in a trade because that was the general consensus of what would be required.

Other possible trades could be two first-round picks instead. Most likely, that would be pick 9 and next year's future first. Carlton are not likely to hold on to pick 9 but may want to trade it. Perhaps Sydney could trade that pick instead to extract better value? Pick 9 for someone's future first (2026), one or two later picks in this year's draft for bid matching, and give the future first to Carlton.

The more I consider this, the more likely it becomes that this Curnow trade is not going to be a two-club trade.
