But despite that, I was aware throughout that Cameron hadn't kicked a goal (yet). And then the end of the game came and Cameron still hadn't kicked a goal. But I wasn't paying enough attention to truly appreciate why he hadn't kicked a goal, and I deleted the recording of the game from my IQ as soon as I got home. I have some needles to stick in my eyeballs if I want to torture myself.

But can anyone provide reasons why Cameron didn't kick a goal? The reason I'm asking this in response to a post about Rampe is that a couple of times I saw Rampe was on Cameron, and wondered if he was on him for large stretches of the match and, if so, did he do a good blanketing job? Or were there other reasons why Cameron didn't kick a goal.

I have reservations about Rampe next season but his value on the list will depend on who else / how many more we decide to jettison. If he's still capable of quelling a player of Cameron's potency, I'm more likely to be persuaded that he's worth hanging on to for another year.
I wasn’t at the game but watching the TV seemed that Rampe largely made Cameron irrelevant but that also Tom Mac went on him when he went closer to the goal line, with Rampe playing on him more on the half forward and his roaming positions. Thought Rampe looked good, but Cameron didn’t really look too fired up. Cameron was pretty flat against the bombers too so may be in a form slump or playing at 70% ahead of finals

I’d be inclined to keep Rampe, unless we have something up our sleeves in the off season. I think his form back end of the year has been very good and as long as he understands the world can move quickly and there are risks to playing on, I’m cool with it.

What I definitely would not be cool with is a scenario where we’ve made the decision to retire him but not given him the definitive word. If that was the case he deserved to know before last weekend and our final SCG game. The guy has been a dead set legend of this footy club and if it was time to say goodbye he had more than earned the opportunity for pomp and fuss to be made over his career and to get the farewell he deserved from the crowd.

Given our club tends to do these things the right way, it suggests to me he’s staying on.

I can't see why there is this talk about Rampe retiring. I reckon he has been good/consistent all year and has another year in him.

I didn’t see Fox playing in the VFL yesterday so I am wondering if the decision has been made to keep Rampe for one more season and retire Fox who has had a year to forget with injury. I cannot see the club retaining both

Personally, I'm getting the general vibe that Rampe might spend next year running around on the rookie list. No real evidence for that, but I think that the club needs to make a few list cuts and there aren't too many obvious choices. Probably Mitchell from the main list and a few already on the rookie list. So, if the club is unsure that the currently 35 year old Rampe has another AFL season in him, he should at least have value as an onfield leader in the VFL.

And I don't think playing in the VFL would rule out an appropriate send off. I mean, final home game of the season, and who wouldn't enjoy seeing him do a lap at half-time, dressed in the Rampe robe?

              Got to love the media

Talking about what would get Petracca, a 1st and "maybe" a Future 2ndwould be required

Talk about what would get Curnow, 2 players and 2 1st Round Picks ar least

Silly season is a week away

I disagree I think he has really struggled to have an influence in any game this year and now would be a perfect time to leave the game.

you have to laugh at Curnows value 2 firsts or a mix with a player like Floreant and a First seems more like it to me and I would take that deal

Not fussed about Curnow at all but surely 1 of Amartey, Ladhams or Mclean are surplus if he is a target

Keeping Green and Logan out of it.

It would be interesting to know if Curnow is interested in coming to us. I think it’s fair to say our list is better than theirs and a fair deal can be done if he wants to come.
Re: Ramps- he obviously is not what he used to be but still value for another year. We don’t have players beating the door down to take his place unless we trade for someone above average. Hamling is what we have right now and maybe Francis. And then there is Snell, who is yet to play at AFL level. So we need both a KPF and a KPD at the very least. Big job for our recruiters coming up.

Curnow going no where, has a big contract out to 2029, loves it in Melbourne, loves it at Carlton where standard to perform is optional it seems.

AFL reporters just make stuff up all the time and run hard with it until suddenly the player re-signs then there's deathly silence from them on that player. It's just a media circus, a hundred people trying to justify their wages.

Six weeks to Trade period, fourteen weeks to the ND

This year is irrelevant, it's playing a major role as a key defender next year, which is what he is expected to do
I dont think he is upto it for more than 12 games so what is the point ?

Look at Fox, didnt get on the park this year, he is best back 6 with his eyes closed.

Things can change quickly, not sure where either of them sit for next year

Posted this on the Acdemy Games thread as well

Brad Scott, former high level official at the A(V)FL, quoted in a new article on the AFL website talking about this year's draft -

"The northern states have got a mortgage on the top five or six or seven or eight in the draft this year"

This is typical VIcbias rubbish that is spouted south of the Murray. Please Brad you should know better than to spout such crap - there are possibly three Northern Academy draftees in the top ten this draft, Uwland and Patterson for GC, Annable for Brisbane.

Three is NOT the top five or six or seven or eight in the draft this year!!

And let's not confuse academy draftees and muddy the water with the three top F/S that Brisbane has taken the last two drafts.

Vicbias very alive and well grrrrr
