According to the rumour monging AFL press LOL And that would be the same Suns that have a maxed out Salary Cap? More Jack Bowes style salary dumps incoming?

AFL press make stuff up and then feed off each others self generated rumours. Curnow will go no whereLast edited by BFG; 23 July 2025, 02:51 PM.Comment

Worth having a good read of Twomey's top 25, quite a number getting a listing on the back of what seems moderate performance against, of course, moderate opposition. Barring a strong end of year, a bid on King mid teens will be based on potential rather than performance. A bid around 14/15 will be about where our first pick will drift to after a couple of high Compo picks and certainly three GC/Bris matching bids. The rest of our academy players not rated by Twomey.Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' July ranking

A first round of nearly 30 significantly reduces value of second round picks depending on what picks clubs use to match early bids. It's a new world this year with the substantially watered down pick values. Plenty of scenarios will be run by club recruiters to understand the potential machinations.

St.Kilda has been very outspoken about the northern academies, even wanting them abolished from this year's draft! They currently hold pick 4 - will they use it to back up their whinging stance by bidding on Queenslanders Uwland, Patterson and Annable?

Only four months until the National Draft :-)Comment

From what I have seen of King I am not sure many clubs will be looking at taking him early first round, Id have him late first early second. To be honest I doubt he will make as an AFL player.Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' July ranking

It's hard to think of a less suited match.

Suns have some highly rated academy prospects this year (again) and so won't have the draft capital to trade for Curnow.

Their salary cap must be pretty tight, and projected to get tighter over the next few years as they need to re-sign the likes of Humphrey, Read, Walter et al.

And speaking of Read and Walter, they don't seem to be in need of a key forward, even in the short term, with King already into the mature part of his career. Seeking out someone like Curnow would only make sense if King had indicated he wanted to leave.Comment

Or maybe GC is a decoy for Brissy who were talking about Oscar Allen.

Brissy have more immediate salary issues with older Premiership players probably not as prepared to wait their turn like the GC kidsComment

Herald Sun did an expose on clubs salary caps a few days ago. Assume their info will be close to the mark, seems to be in line with what 's been said in recent times. Movement of highly paid players can change things, like TDK $900k off Carlton cap and $1.5m+ onto Saints cap.

 Three tiers -

Tight as a drum, Freo, GWS, GC, Carlton

Tight but still chasing, Bris, Pies, Cats LOL!, Melb, Dogs

Millions in cap space roughly in order of spare cash, WCE, Saints - Norf, Ess, Richmond - Hawks, Port, Crows, Swans

If this is accurate then we should congratulate the club in having all the key players locked in to long term contracts but still having spare cash. Grundy on the cheap with Pies picking up a reported $250k per season in their cap. It's very nice of them

Geelong needed a big asterix alongside their cap ranking!Comment

In Cal’s 2020 draft form guide he didn’t have Errol in the top 20, and said Max Holmes would be a “smokey” to be inside the top 30. At this stage of a young footballer’s career it’s all pretty speculative.Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' July ranking

aaaand, as expected, Charlie Curnow comes out and said he's not moving from Carlton and never even thought about it.

Yet another in the endless streams of trade rumours floated by the AFL media clowns to fill airwaves time and newspaper columns.

All our likely academy players are playing VFL against GWS this arvo.Comment
