      I say just go all in. Trade for Curnow. Wait for Dogs to delist JUH and sign him for nothing. When they both work out the overs paid for Curnow is offset by JUH. Move Logan to defence. Job done.

        Have a look at the Top Sides, all have young fwds dominating, we have the cattle

        We need to move on the older guys and see what the younger ones can do

        Just heard Fagan say he debut Darcy Wilmot in a final, name a time where we would ever debut a kid in a final, look what it's done for Wilmots career.

        Lloyd, Ramps and maybe even Cunningham need to be overtaken. I know Harry has been doing jobs but no one plays that lockdown sh8t anymore, we need to hurt teams with attack.

        There isn't a top 8 side with a Lockdown defender

          any interest in Jack Silvangi (def and free agent) or McGovern (not played last2 games so as not to trigger extn) def or Marcus Wngager (sts ,mid bull out of contract) Would love Curnow but cost would be significant in terms of tradet WHO would that be. (not whar they want so who else)

            Silvagni or Lever for me

            Jack is just dollars and no more than we would be paying any big name we bring in without losing anything

            Lever is McLean or Ladhams or a 2nd Rnd Pick

              There are some Carlton supporters believing we would trade Gulden for Curnow. How disillusion are they? Curnow is 29 and Gulden is 22 years old and a future captain. If Curnow wants to leave they will have to bit the bullet like us with Dawson. Just a first round draft selection is all we got.

                I don't understand why there is an assumption that the draft rules around father-son and (northern, not the pretend NG) academies need to be the same. One is the result of lucky sperm, the other is the result of significant financial investment, early talent identification and a decade or so of training and development. Only a true moron would view them as equivalent. And yet ....
                Caro on AS last night reported that Greg Swann won't be making any changes to the F/S and Academy rules this year, but is looking at next year to implement change whereby clubs won't able to match bids for either in the first round!

                I'm disappointed with Swann if this turns out to be the case, that he's been quickly swayed by some of the Melb Mafia. He should know better. Hope Harley will able to sway influence against this move.

                As pointed above by V&R, F/S and the Northern Academies are not the same! Gerard Healy has longed debated with the Melb media that the NGAs are a big rort compared with the NAs.

                  Agree with others sentiment - not sure we need a superstar forward. Whilst nice, its not a burning issue as we have plenty of decent options at the moment who will hopefully improve over the next year or two. Bigger issue is the need for a quality key back to support Melican and McCartin - absolutely no depth there.

                    Twomey latest draft rankings are on the AFL website. Twomey is always quite accurate in Phantom's although there's 13 weeks to the ND.

                    Good news for us if we intend matching, Max King has drifted out to 21 and Carmichael out of the top 30.

                    Highly likely this means we will use our first rounder on a non academy player before matching later bids, if we intend to do that.

                    Currently holding pick 9 which will be pick 11 after FA compo picks before us for Allen from WC to Bris and TDK from Carlton to whinging St.Kilda. We'll get pushed back another couple to around pick 13 with GC and Brisbane matching three academy bids inside the top half dozen picks.

                    The new points scale means clubs like GC won't be able to trade pick 6, that they hold from Port, for a bag of later junk picks to match. In fact pick 6 may go in matching possible number one Zeke Uwland.

                    So check out Twomey's profiles in the 10-17 range as possible targets for our first pick.

                      Don’t get the general interest in Silvagni. Sure, he competes to the best of his ability. But he’s rarely played a full season due to injury, he’s had maybe half a dozen decent games in defence, it’s usually been as a third tall, and he lacks pace.

                      There’s a lot of over excitement round the comp for a bog average player.

                        The fascination is that he is "free", the money being talked about it reasonable and he doesn't cost to trade. Every other player is under contract which typically means they don't come cheap.

                            Agree, I think we need an intercept defender more than a forward. We forget that McDonald was tracking better than Thilthorpe prior to this year. If he comes back having muscled up the same way, then look out! Ugle-Hagan is far too much of a risk, in terms of damage to culture and whether he even wants to play footy at an elite level, with all the work that entails. Curnow offers little more than what we already have. Yes, a talented player, and maybe he’d be better with us, but he doesn’t really do enough regularly to warrant the adulation of the Victorian press. He’s no Lockett, Hall or Franklin, and apart from one really good season he’s more flashy than consistent.

                              Twomey on the Gettable podcast:
                              - definitely interest from the Swans point of view in Curnow;
                              - 'fact' that Curnow is keen to move if Carlton green light the trade;
                              - 4 Swans untouchables: Heeney, Gulden, Warner, Blakey;
                              - difficult to see how a deal gets done;
                              - mentioned that big deals generally get done when other teams get involved.

                              For what it's worth, i absolutely hope we get him. I've travelled to Melbourne 4 times in 10 years to watch most abject grand final losses; totally support taking a swing.
