We would get him for bugger all - probably a 4th round pick or something. Just Bulldogs have to wear most of the contract. If we drafted him I would try to put some training/attendance clause in any contract. If he is not up to expectations by round 1 I would pay him out anything owed and let him go. If he is not willing to meet standards by then I would not want him affecting other players and the club reputation.

I think as others have said that a true KPD would be just as important as Curnow to our structure. The other issue is when do we find out about a 5 man interchange? It needs to be decided soon after the GF because Ladhams' value will go up a lot to us and other clubs if that is introduced.
Buller is the biggest priority but I agree I'd take a chance on JUH over what Curnow would cost

I don't think Buller is a priority he's a nice fall back position if nothing eventuates, he's just another B grader we can add to our collection - don't get me wrong I am not against signing him for another year, just don't think he's a priority

Alot of that is based on cost

Buller is a free kick and his trajectory from Game 1 to Game 10 is very good.

Curnow rips the team apart, with a big gamble and we still end up without a key defender

JUH, I hope Sydney have been telling him to play up to bring his cost down. Sign on a massive performance based role.

I wonder if we went after Naughton with a view to make one of them available

Right now I guess everything is on the table, I don’t have much faith in our recruiters and the recruiting policy. I can’t tell you what the plan is and to be honest I wonder if they even know

Yeah I agree, I don't think it's as well oiled as what people think.

Tough being out of Vic but I always feel we get fleeced at the Trade table

I must admit I’m a bit jealous of Geelong’s ability to recruit established stars like Cameron and Bailey Smith, who was superb against the Lions. The last big name star we recruited was Buddy- a fantastic coup- but that was how many years ago? Before that, we got Plugger and Big Bad Barry, to help draw crowds to the SCG.

I'm not saying we need to recruit absolute Champions but surely we can and must do better than bring in bang average players at best, or list cloggers at worst. I won’t name them out of respect, but we all know who they are. Our recruiters really need to lift their game or make way for others who have more ambition/ ability to both spot talent early at the draft and also trade sensibly for the right player(s). We should only go for Curnow if he truly wants to come to us, as otherwise Carlton will demand the Earth for him but if they realise his head and heart has turned, it may be doable for us. Joe Daniher wanted out and was keen on coming to us but ended up in Brisbane and helped them to a flag. Curnow could do the same for us. JUH has heaps of ability but shame about his attitude- would be high risk but if we could get him on very favourable terms would be ok as his potential upside is huge!

JJ and Grundy have been great gets.

My issue with Curnow is even if we get him we still need a Key Defender

If we somehow got Curnow will we be in danger of becoming too predictable again with our forward entries, becoming too centric as we were with Buddy? Is Curnow in the same league?

When Buddy retired, it did help us become less predictable as last year highlighted. It was hoped, that his retirement will help accelerate Armatey's & Logan's development as they entered maturity, but alas injuries has curtailed that this year. We've now also discovered Buller who also shows promise, after finally overcoming his own wretched injury run.

Do we faith out current KPFs can collectively become A grade material as with Adelaide's this year?

Agree with UUaswan, regardless we still desperately need a quality KPD as a bigger priority.

I honestly don't think our overall group of KPFs are good enough to become A grade material. We saw last year they can clearly play a very positive role in a well functioning team. I still have hope for McDonald, if he can get his body right. And have no doubt that the others can play a supporting role. But I can't see if we get Curnow how we can have him, Amartey, Mclean, Mcdonald and Buller all on the books longer term.

I agree KPD is a bigger priority, but doubt we there is any likely to be available that fit our bill. Especially when you have teams like St Kilda willing to through ridiculous money at anyone and everyone. And teams like Geelong with their Salary Sombrero, who no matter how good their list is, have a cottoned on way to find another farm and get another star in, on what we are always assured is a 'cheap deal'....

Cant see how they are not capable of being A Grade.

Look at Freo, they arent looking for a fwd, they picked up Voss who has had 1 good year at 34 goals, still less than Logan and Amartey.
Amiss just had a 2 possession final

We just need health, Cameron and Hogan are the only 2 A Graders in the league, none of the others have done it enough or recently to be considered A Graders

We are simply chasing something that isnt there
