Quick scan of the trade talk:

JUH likely to end up at the Suns. Budarick (Suns) wants to go to the Bulldogs. IMO it could be a simple swap of players with some shuffling of picks.
Curnow needs to name his preferred club before trade talks can begin. Geelong not willing to give up players. Sydney could be his club of choice.
Oliver could end up at Collingwood.
    Free agency officially starts tomorrow.

Mclean not finishing in the Top 10 given his role this year speaks volumes to how he was wasted all season.

Given he seems to want to go home, I wish Bailey Humphrey was from NSW. If he was already playing in Vic, he'd be a superstar right now - and he's still got massive upside.

Ressie watchers will be keen to know that Damien Truslove has been appointed as coach of their VFL team and into a development role, which is great news if one of your passion projects in life is laughing at all things Carlton.

Apparently Will Hayward may be part of Curnow trade. Will Hayward and first rounder I would think is what is being talked about. We should not give overs.
I am not sure letting go off will Hayward. He is a really valuable player. We don’t have anyone to replace him.

I think the area that is key for us know is the flexibility that a Curnow type player (at his best) can provide a team in attack

with an addition like Curnow we can ask way more questions upfront vs say the utility of Hayward

you would argue Curnow provides our attack more than Hayward

albeit Hayward is a very good player and has always put in great effort

Latest news, Petracca wants to be traded to GC, realistically the only club that has the assets to get the trade done. JUH also headed to GC, probably for a half eaten packet of chips.

And the pushing out of non involved clubs picks has begun, Silvagni has netted Carlton pick 19. Last draft, WC pick 19 got pushed out to pick 30 by FA compo and bid matching. So their start of second round for finishing last goes out 11 places. The draft isn't working as an equalisation tool.

For those that like to have a laugh at the ineptness of LOLNorf, last draft they traded their future first that is pick 3 to Richmond for pick 27 Matt Whitlock and a pick that will be 30+ in this years draft. What an absolute @@@@ up, unless Matt Whitlock becomes a gun FF

JUH Bulldogs->Suns, Budarick Suns->Bulldogs. Could almost be a straight swap.

Free agency compromises the draft more than any other recruitment method because free agency picks are created out of nothing. Between 2012 and 2024, the points value for compensation picks for free agency have amounted to nearly an entire draft's worth of points. Every one of those picks has been handed out for "free", but in reality they contribute significantly to draft bloat.

The AFL has focused on father-son and Academy bids, but they are being negligent in not addressing free agency compensation. If the clubs receiving free agents had to give up some DVI points to create the compensation, it would make it much harder to recruit free agents from bottom clubs. If the compensation is pick 3, then the club receiving the free agent must give up picks worth 2178 points.

The benefits of free agency are very uneven. This is most clearly shown by the Giants receiving six compensation picks for losing players to free agency since 2012. The Giants have recruited no free agents with compensation picks attacked. This is why the northern academies exist.

North Melbourne were trying to trade back into the draft for several picks before that. Sydney had the previous pick and North Melbourne tried to trade for it. Instead of picking Bowman, Sydney could have made that trade and be holding pick 3.

On free agency, the AFL has posted an article showing all free agency compensation ever handed out.
Every free agency compensation pick ever, and where they ended up

I find it strange for Will Hayward to mention this at all, as there was no need given it is a supposed hypothetical?
