Much appreciated all. Apparently Keane was on trade radio this morning and dismissed the speculation around Hayward and Rowbottom. These things can change of course.

Of the academy kids, Kyle fascinates me. I’ve seen some draft observers like Twomey talk him up as a pick in the 30s that a few clubs are interested in. Of course, that’s a player ranking well into the 40s or 50s in a normal draft, so let’s not get too excited. But we should potentially expect a bid on him.

The following scenario would be interesting:
      1. Kyle gets drafted by a Victorian club after Sydney does not match.
      2. He stays for two years and becomes a handy player.
      3. Kyle gets "go home" disease and seeks a trade back to Sydney and is duly traded.
      4. The Victorian club wails loudly about how unfair the system is, while ignoring the dozen or so players they've recruited out of NSW and Queensland in the same way over 40 years.

In the spirit of creating fantasy trades, and deciding players might want to move to the other side of the country, even if they don't...

Sydney: Get Curnow, Give up Florent (Carlton) and Corey Warner (West Coast) and likely a first round draft pick.
Carlton: Get Florent, Campbell Chesser (from West Coast, he has nominated Carlton as his preferred destination) and the likely first round draft pick from the Swans. Give up Curnow and a third round pick to the Eagles.
West Coast: Get Corey Warner and Carlton's 3rd round pick. Give up Chesser.

There might be a few extra pick swaps in there somewhere to make it more palatable to each club.

Thought about this the other day, have we ever actually had someone we missed out on beg to come home when they could ?

I do think think it works that way, it's more about a case of "you didnt want me", I'm happy here

Rosas trade has been completed. Rosas and pick 62 in exchange for pick 51 and 69.

So we basically gave pick 51 for Rosas and got 62 as an upgrade on pick 69. Points stop at pick 54 now and the speed at which the AFL is making new picks our old pick 54 probably wasn't going to be worth points anyway. Already six extra picks created between 9 and 42 with the Oscar Allen still to come at pick 2. Way to complicated to pontificate on picks and points.

One thing I'm now wondering about: if a club picks one of our academy players at, say, pick 56, can we claim that player with our pick 69, even if both picks are worth no points? Or are we unable to match the bid, because we have no points to do so, even if the bid is worth nothing?

And on Rosas: he does have a lot of skill around goal and I'm encouraged that he's apparently been spending a bit of time in the middle. Though I'm not sure if you can play him, Papley and Dattoli in the same side? Maybe management see him largely as depth, or perhaps they're thinking that Dattoli could spend more time as a midfielder? It also seems to make the position of Hanily in the squad a bit less secure.

No, it's this year. The current points table is at the bottom of this recent article.

Cheers for that, so assuming a few get cancelled out, that pick 62 will have some points attached to it

I think that’s what the Swans are betting on - that with the number of academy and father son draftees, we slide back inside the cut off for points. And it’s a fair bet.

Could have an unusual situation with draft picks this year being in pairs, quite likely it could be picks 1&2 West Coast, picks 3&4 Richmond, picks 5&6 Essendon, and, if Petracca goes to GC, picks 7&8 Melbourne

Still can't believe that LOLNorf traded what will be pick 3 this year for pick 27 last year and what's shaping to be about pick 27 again this year. I know we don't always agree with what our list managers do but theirs are on planet Stupid!
