You just wonder how the Curnow trade will get done. I can't see that we give up our first round pick, given that Max King and Kyle both performed in the top 10 at the Draft Combine. We have to support the Academy and would be very disappointed if they went for short term gain. King is a key forward and Kyle a key back and boy do we need a key back. The lad has come from the clouds and it will be interesting to see if Kyle zooms up the charts.

Could be games but interesting to read we werent happy with Buller leaving, we may well get a 2nd rounder for him ???
The good thing with that trade is that West Coast will have 1st pick in the pre season draft which should stop the Pies playing silly buggers, especially after losing MihocekComment

lets forget about Curnow, he would be nice but people forget what we did in 2024 finishing on top of ladder and except got as dismal GF performance beat most other teams. So I am not sure if the guys on fox Trading day revfiew last night are correct we need curnow particularly Montania. Keep ou points and go for say Blake Thredgold, like what I reas. Tall lock down defender, lastest Cal Twomey rating 28.
Also maybe 62 for serong was a # 62 oick when drafted. Finally let tellthe Pies its their pick 38 for BBuller or into the pre season draft he goes and probably accross the Nullabor again to the West Coast.Comment

Apparently Carlton will see our 2026 1st rounder as being crucial in any Curnow trade, considering they will need it under the new rules to match bid for F/S Cody Walker, who is expected to go pick 2 or 3 next year at this early stage.
Taking into account what it might take to match bids for our desired Academy boys in the event of landing Curnow with our 2 x 1st rounders, getting maximum for Buller will now be crucial (Pies pick 38).
Will we be happy if we end up landing Curnow, Rosas, Jai Serong and matching bids for our Academy boys but losing Buller and a quality player lIke a Florent?

Pick 62 for Serong sounds about right, though I expect Hawthorn may want a bit more. Sydney had a reason for wanting pick 62 from the Suns and the Serong trade could be it. I was talking with a Hawthorn fan yesterday and he rated Serong as the fringe Hawthorn defender he least liked to lose in a trade."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi final👍 1Comment

I personally think there is massive upside to a fit and firing Curnow
the ability to lock it in with entries and minimise dangerous rebound from the opposition with a player like Curnow on the lead is a very important component of an elite team
as we all know this enables us to really set up our defence to mitigate exits which tend to be less frantic and more predictable - which keeps the pressure on the opposition and forces mistakes to capitalise on
given most of us know that creative rebound from forced exits is a match winning outlier of a stat ie Richmond’s game plan for a few premierships
the ability of Curnow kicking a stack of goals and applying scoreboard pressure especially on the SCG that suits a long on the run kicker that is deadly
the ability to bring other weapons into the game like Gulden, Paps etc
the pressure release for Amartey and Logan to contest marks vs 2nd and 3rd pick tall defenders
for me this is a trade that would genuinely put us back in the top 4 and dangerous
Curnow age lines up with Paps, Heeney and Mills and a few others as senior players on a mission before returning in a few years etc
for me that is an obvious window strategy that almost always requires a bit of an X factor tall to be part of the formulae"be tough, only when it gets tough"

The Buller situation is not as easy as it may appear. The Swans could play hardball and force Collingwoods hand by threatening to delist him if they do not come up with a reasonable deal. Collingwood do not have a lot of draft capital to work with.

And on our favourite topic, Geelong got busted cheating the rules on third party payments, in some cases tried to hide it, but get a small fine. The AFL is beyond parody.
https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/geelo...hes-c-20276178
"Geelong have been hit with a $77,500 fine and face more stringent AFL scrutiny after an investigation into their controversial third-party deals.
The Cats have accepted the penalty, with $40,000 of the fine suspended for two years.
The AFL did an extended audit of the club, from 2019-24, after an initial audit last year. The extended audit covered total player payments and the football department soft cap."

Seriously, in what amounts to a $37,500 fine, it's actually beyond pathetic.Last edited by stevoswan; 8 October 2025, 04:54 PM.Comment

Yes, the headline says 'monster fine'.....well, it's a 'monster fine' that the Cats will laugh at.
