I'd expected a maximum of 4, based on Twomey's Phantom Draft: Top 30, late picks, whispers - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1453760.
But I haven't done the list spot maths myself.Comment

Damn, I was sorta hoping that we'd rookie list Angus Anderson, but Collingwood have just taken him. Former academy player, who was probably unlucky not to be at least rookie listed in his draft year. Then spent a couple of years playing for Sturt in the SANFL. Recently won the Oatey Medal as BOG in the grand final.👍 1Comment

I think we did ok. Kyle looks a quality player and King is probably a year away. The other 2 boys look like they have genuine talent. Yes, we have plenty of midfielders but for most clubs the draftees know they won't all be walk up starts. 18yos need time. We traded for immediate experience.Comment

I agree with everything you wrote, particularly losing Carmichael as a result. Picking up Philippi with pick 35 may compensate, he appeared to be well regarded in the lead up to the draftI think the animosity between the Giants and the Swans stems from the fact that we recruited Franklin and they had no idea. I bumped into SOS who was with the Giants recruiting team back then, and he genuinely said the Giants were SHOCKED - furthermore he said they were seething!
After all is said and done, they haven't forgotten. Even the bid on Harry Rowston made them ark up a bit more. So I suspect they may have a score to settle, however I don't think that they would have bid if they didn't want Kyle anyway.
For what its worth, I am satisfied with the recruitment team. We all have to make calls and some turn out better than others. The recruitment team would have been well aware of Carmichael's attributes and would have made a considered decision. Its not like they didn't know, having seen the kid up close for the last 2 years. Furthermore, they probably didn't want to go into deficit, as they know what is coming through the academy next year.
Hopefully we get King and Roberts-Thompson in the draft and Chamberlain slips through to the rookie draft.
At least the Swans play fair.. not like the others.Comment

I think a very good draft and trade period
one of our better for some years
Billy and Harry have every chance of playing a reasonable amount of 2026
Jevan possibly an exciting prospect for many years ahead
Max a slow burner (most likely) hence his slide down the draft picks
Curnow, Serong and Rosas all appear ready for AFL in particular Curnow giving our attack and scoreboard pressure in our forward half the zing we need to lock in and apply scoreboard pressure
Lloyd and Rampe moving off our top list is very handy re spots and cap
i like the variety and crafty players added
we have stacked inside mids for a bit and now so class and creativity to compliment …….. not bad at all !"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Really happy with what we've been able to do with what was a very modest starting set of picks.
Got bastardised by GWS who traded up then bid on Kyle.
From that point we were always at risk and another well ahead of general consensus bid by the appropriately named Dogs, killed our ability to get all three academy boys.
It hurt losing Carmichael but thrilled to get Philipou who could be anything. A mate said Philipou's father played footy with Pav's father in the SANFL, if true, a nice connection.
Expect a couple of the outlier academy boys to be added tomorrow arvo in the RD.
Can't fault the clubs work this trade and drft period👍 1Comment

We have an interesting crop.
The Bid came too early KYLE and we were unable to take CARMICHAEL
We then found ourselves without a second player with a potential star mid still on the board. WELCOME JEVAN PHILLIPOU
This is where it gets strange,
We take a bloke called BILLY COOTEE. Sounds like a character out of Ma Barker or Billie the Kid movies. Who the hell is BILLy COOTEE. This is one out of left field just like Riley Bice. It turns out he is a mature ager, 23, who originated in Essendon but ended up playing for the Redlegs in SA. Remember, Norwood played in losing GF last year, so a pretty strong side. Injury killed them this year. He averages 22.8 disposals @ 80% efficiency. He is a small mid, 178cm, who also averages 1.1 goals/game. But most of all he averages 4.9 clearances and 5.4 tackles. This guy is the two way runner we need in the mids and he's ready to go.
Then we got the second of our Academy picks, MAX KING.
WELCOME TO THE SWANS
HARRY KYLE
JEVAN PHILLIPOU
BILLY COOTEE
MAX KING
I wonder do we take McNamara and Chamberlain in the Rookie Draft with Rampe and Lloyd?
If we do that will make our list spots
Main List 37
Cat A Rookie 6
Cat B Rookie 1
Exactly 44 list spots
