Hamling was excellent yesterday when playing in defence for the first half and turned the game in the third quarter with 3 quick goals.
Agree with your comments on Edwards, he struggled earlier in the game but lifted significantly in the second half. Certainly worth persevering with.
One thing that is noticeable is the difference experienced players make in the VFL team. Hamling and McLean stood out in this regard👍 1Comment

When we get an injury in our defence we should promote one of these boys. At some stage we have to expose them to the big time. I would rather keep Serong playing on the wing as he covers heaps of ground and gets back to support the defence.👍 1Comment

still no write up on win against Port Melb. form Nick M. surely something should be put on the web site. An as a comment re th VFL why have it seems we get a bye every second week. For the lif of me why are they not playing VFL this week. It doesn't effecr agther round surely.Comment

The VFL has a bye this week due to a state of origin match. All the SANFL teams have a bye as well.
The match details are here: West End State Team to confront VFL in Gather Round (sanfl.com.au)"Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Strangely, it took until today for the coaches votes to be published.
9 Tom Hird (PM)
9 Patrick Snell (SYD)
6 Joel Hamling (SYD)
2 Josh Green (PM)
2 Josh Tovey (PM)
1 Jesse Dattoli (SYD)
1 Hayden McLean (SYD)Comment

The problem is Snell is only 194cm, the same as Melican. Hamling is 197cm and that is the reason he was selected.Comment

Probably not, as it was a two game VFL suspension and we've only played one game since then. Irritating how a two game VFL suspension, can rule a player out of AFL consideration for a month.Comment

Thanks Deja. It is frustrating and confusing as you've alluded, that Ladhams still has the 2nd week of his VFL suspension to serve due to the interceding VFL bye, despite our AFL team having played 2 games during this period.
It doesn't make sense that a suspension in a 2nd tier competition can overrule over the 1st tier, where technically the suspension has been already served?
Heaven forbid, if this hypothetically coincided with Grundy being out on the eve of the finals and Ladhams isn't available for senior selection due to this misalignment?
Similar situation with Riak copping 5 week ban in July last year, yet would've still had to miss the first 2 AFL games of this season if he was in serious contention!
The sooner the VFL is reconstructed to a proper AFL Reserves competition (as has been proposed) the better. Having these current quirks due to the season misalignments is unacceptable in such a high stakes multi blllion competition. Rant over!
