Could they play cricket at Telstra?

I would be tempted if I was the ACB to move the one dayers there for the ashes series. It would never happen, but you could certainly get more cash coming in.
I will be a member again when I return.

OI! whats wrong with Manuka? There's a real hill, there beer in a real bottle, cant go wrong with that!
That's the problem with modern day medicine - there's no more natural selection of the species.
No wonder there's so many Collingwood fans.

They have played some NSW one-dayers there, I've been to a couple, but it is a terrible place for cricket.

The only advantage would be more people could go, as at the moment tickets to International cricket in Sydney are pretty hard to snag.

That dust blowing in your face when you are watching the football is so replenishing, not.

There is NO atmosphere. I repeat NO atmosphere.

Plus the food and drink generally ALWAYS runs out well before half time. The queues are often so long it is often better to go to the cake shop in the shopping mall thing across the road. (Mmm, home made custard tarts! )

Manuka is unfortunately little more than a makeshift cricket ground turned into a rather temporary-looking Aussie Rules ground.

The ACB did put it out to tender last year but in a decision that stank to the high heavens they gave all the cricket to the SCG, when you would've thought that similar to the Swans it would've been in the best interests of cricket to have some one-dayers at the Olympic Stad.

Come on JF, despite it being in the nations capital it is more or less country ground, you can't expect too much given that.

Cararra is basically a country ground as well. I loved it. There was nice luxuriant grass everywhere, concrete terracing to stand or sit in. A place for mugs to stand and heckle players up the back, nice covered grandstand. It had a relaxed yet comfortable atmosphere, unlike Manuka which is akin to living on the moon.

Nobody needs red dust flying in their face all the time. And waiting for a long time for a drink or feed is one of my pet hates. Because I pay my money to come and watch the football & support my team.

I love the SCG! I love the Members and Ladies Stands, from where I watched many Bloods matches before the SFC restricted members to outer or "inner". I love sitting on the once-was Hill, surrounded by theatre-goers and opposition fans with no designated seating. The SCG has a unique atmosphere unmatched by any other AFL ground, and I've been to the Gabba, MCG, Terrordome, Amy.

Yes, the SCG could do with some redevelopment. The Messenger Stand is a joke. But do we want more dining rooms and corporate boxes? They mean nothing to me, and I'll bet they mean as much to anyone on this website.

I can rock up there, park my motorbike for free within 80m of the gate, walk in and find a seat. The MCG is a true stadium and great in its own way. But life isn't all about mono-theming maximum access. Don't miss your water 'til your well runs dry, eh? I'm into my 3rd decade of watching Sydney from the Hill. I want to watch them from the Hill for a long while yet, and I don't want teh long history of Sydney property over-development to ruin it for me.

Listen to this man, he has nailed it. Corporate boxes are not for you and me, neither is any development which is not about getting more bums on seats and providing decent services (food, sanitation and entry/egress) for said bums on seats.

Actually I hardly buy any food at the SCG. Maybe some chips at half time. Or a coke at 200% inflated prices.

I'm in the Cheer Squad, so don't drink at matches really. Maybe the odd bourbon at half time up the back, but that is it.

Hey, dining rooms and the like are of little interest to me personally. But they may well be of interest to Myles and his corporate team at the club offices as they attempt to woo potential sponsors. You might think "Corporates, meh?" But if it means we get more sponsorship dollars out of extra facilties for them, then all and well. Especially as we ALREADY get more for our guernsey & short sponsorship than Collingwood' one of the reasons Eddie has a real bee in his bonnet about us.

Seriously, go to the Gabba and see the facilities they have there & see how poorly the SCG matches up. Delapidated facilities, insufficient exits, that annoying gap between where the lower tier & upper tier sit, those stupid looking stands the Doug Walters & Messenger Stand, insufficient food outlets with massive queues, that area behind the Churchill, no pass outs! Walkways that cannot cope with crowds of more than 35000 (ie under the Brewongle at the Geelong final)

I'm personally fed up with the insufficient facilities offered by the SCG as a venue. That is why I'm very much pro-Telstra, despite the hassle of lugging my flags out there every few weeks. If the SCG had a stand like they do at the Gabba behind the goals, I'd probably become more pro SCG.

We have bitched enough in this thread. Now how about we start listing what we DO want out of the ground so that they can perhaps take heed of our concerns and venue attendees and members of one of the clubs who have the ground as one of its homes.

                          I'd personally want
-to do away with that stupid walkway behind Bay 22
-have decent modern clean toilet facilities behind the goals
-have more than one entry point into the ground (maybe open up a gate from inside Fox Studios or something?)
-not have to wait for long to go to the loo, or order food or drink (one of the best points about the Gabba, the queues are minimal even at half time)
-have a ground I can walk right the way around
-have a ground with stands that actually look unified, rather than one high one, one low one, another high one..
-have a ground with a lot of unreserved GA seating (at a price close to what they are offering in Victoria as well)
-have more spectators protected from the elements

I'd said my piece. What things would you want in a refurbished SCG? What things are important to you in your day at the footy?

I imagine the existing path will become a tunnel through the new stand. Also means the crowd leaving early won't be visible on TV.
-have decent modern clean toilet facilities behind the goals
Most likely will be in the new stand
-have more than one entry point into the ground (maybe open up a gate from inside Fox Studios or something?)
Not so easy as that is the 'non-public' part of Fox but a wider path through the new stand could help
-not have to wait for long to go to the loo, or order food or drink (one of the best points about the Gabba, the queues are minimal even at half time)
Again the new stand could help with that if they do it right
-have a ground I can walk right the way around
Never going to happen. You don't have at the MCG or at the Gabba. TS and TD are he only ones I know that have it, maybe AAMI too?
-have a ground with stands that actually look unified, rather than one high one, one low one, another high one.
Would be nice - but I can't see the two old stands being bulldozed. Unlike the MCG these two stands actually have some merit
-have a ground with a lot of unreserved GA seating (at a price close to what they are offering in Victoria as well)
I agree. The GA "hill" area should come down to the fence. But some grounds (like KP) are even worse
-have more spectators protected from the elements
Most people would vote for that
