    trade week ideas (merged thread)

I know it's a bit early, but we might start 'thinking' now

Some commentators at the end of the game mentioned that weagles still had a young side while the swans were over-the-hill. While I feel that we still have a pretty young side, it is true that some of our stars are at the wrong end of 20s (i.e Magic, BBHall, Leo Barry, Kirk).

I feel that we do need to be active in the trade week so that we don't become another Brisbane Lions or Essendon Bombers.

Any ideas as whom we should trade for?

    Good question. Chambers for Kerr.

I doubt Everitt will come to Sydney, so I believe we will be after another backup ruckman looking for an opportunity. We did well with Jolly, not so well with Chambers.

        key position defenders

maybe couple of utilities and rucks.

        current players of interest

gardiner/everitt (yet doyle is improving quickly)

        polak (young defender)

brett thornton (less likely but is a gun player).

        just need more talls.
        Onwards to Victory!

Doyle has always had the potential (see Richmond game a few years back), but we have never been able to get him on the pitch more often due to injury.

I seriously hope we do give Gardiner a chance. He is a out-of-sorts talent who is still young enough to turn around.

He has only been offered a 1 year deal by the swans,so he wont be coming.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Most of our older players are key position talls, which age doesnt effect them as much as midfielders. I think sydney's future is as bright as WC's. WC's eagles will only get slower.

We are still desperate for an attacking midfielder. That may come from McVeigh, Davis or Malceski maturing.

Tall defenders are ok. I think the addition Richards gets us plenty of options.

Ruck. We can survive with Jolly and Doyle, but I'm coming around to Everitt again.

Absolutely. It's been an achilles heal of ours for a while and it showed today. Roos should have put Kennelly into the midfield to give us some run. Malceski is a promising option. I'm hoping Schmidt and a couple of the youngsters from the reserves may be good in the future.

Unless we dig into our GF side we've got nothing to trade. Don't want to trade Vogels and although Spriggs was added as an emerg. to increase his tradability I don't think anyone will want him. What's left of value to others but is of little use to us?

We have created vacancies with Williams and Chambers retiring and surely will delist Spriggs. matt davis is also probably in danger. We are going to be inexperienced to the max if we just pick more kids.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

The shopping list should be for a tall agile defender.

What stocks do we have in the reserves, that fit the above?

Our tall agile defenders are: LRT, Barry and Richards, with Bolton and Dempster able to play tall.
In reserve we have Vogels being groomed as a defender, and....well the canberra league isnt a great place to practice defense.
