There is no way that any of our established players will be offered for trade and the duds that have been suggested aren't worth anything.

I do remember a certain Stafford being traded that resulted in Barry Hall coming to Sydney a couple of years ago?

seriously, trading barry hall isn't a total crazy idea, just depending on who we get in return. If it means Pavlich, Jonathan Brown, or Chris Judd coming to Sydney, then I am all for it.

Sorry, but trading Hall is one of the daftest things I have read. He is the single most important player to the Swans - yes, more important than Goodes - and it is only while he is still fit and firing that we have a chance of more short term premiership glory.

One mediocre game does not make him a poor player.

Comparing him to Stafford, a talented but under-peforming player who even at his best was just about in the top 10 players at the club, is ridiculous.

You wouldn't get a champion player for him - teams don't trade champions unless they want out - and no team would give the two plus top 10 picks that he'd be worth because he doesn't hav the same value to the teams that have them as he does to Sydney.

I'm totally scratching my head over this idea...

At the time, Stafford was being cheered when he got dragged and booed when he came back on from half the knobs in the Brewongle concourse, so hardly qualifies as a bona-fide established player.

I think that's the kind of stupid post that Will is talking about. Not suggesting the statement is wrong, but absolutely zero, zilch, nada chance of happening, so why waste time typing it?

Here are my tradeable players...

Ablett (a bit iffy on this - I like him)
J Bolton (Good player but has obvious limitations)
B Mathews (Bad player, obvious limitations)
Spriggs (maybe peripheral trade sweetener?)
Bevan (it won't happen to the love child, but...)
Schmidt
Willow 2

The latter 2 because I think we need to either play them or set them free.

If we don't trade Schmidt, Willow and Spriggs, then these guys MUST play a good number of games next year. I would also hope that Moore gets a fair crack, which means at least 4 current players, mid field types would have to be dropped for large stretches of the season. However, I am sruggling to think who. This points to us having a surplus of 'B class' midfielders and I suspect there will be departures.

Strategy 1 - offload a B + quality midfielder or two (Ablett or Bolton) and get a good pick in the draft, which would free up space for some of the younger guys pushing through.

Strategy 2: Keep the core together and expect to lose at least two of Schmidt, Spriggs, Moore nd Willlow. Honestly, I can't see them wanting to stay and put their careers down the toilet.

I think its quite obvious we need that extra speed/class type on baller in the midfield. However i think we can build this within the club as we have Malceski (stuff the HBF, just get him in the middle).

I love NOG but that's twice he's failed to live up to a GF but i don't think we'll get what he's worth if we trade him for a draft pick. (Late first rounder he's worth but we'd most likely be offered a mid 2nd rounder).

Spida coming in is looking like a 90% proposition if you read the papers (him having a medical etc.) so we may likely lose Ericksen as a sweetner or perhaps willoughby to go along with a 3rd rounder as much as i hate the prospect.

KPP down back is an area of concern especially if LRT doesn't take the next step. Leo is a lionheart full back but we know he's too undersized for this role. We'll most likely have to take a KPP for our 1st round pick as there is reportedly a depth of decent quality in this draft.

Roos states in todays Age that our first 2 picks aren't going anywhere.

The article goes on to say that its vey unlikely that we'll break up the existing squad, so doesn't look like we'll be big players in the trade period.

I for one will be happy if we don't trade at all

There is no point in trading for the sake of it.

If a Dean Cox or Matthew Scarlett came on the table, you'd through almost anything on the trade table (bar Goodes and Hall). But neither of them is going to become available, nor anything even approaching that value.

Unless the good quality, up and coming players we have - most with a lot of upside still - such at McVeigh, Malceski, Ablett, Buchanan, Schneider could command a top 10 pick, what is the point? And none of those would command a top 10 pick. Roos has shown the value he places on picks in the teens and 20s by trading for Jolly and Richards, bit part players at their previous clubs who he perceived could fill a gap at the Swans. And his judgement looks to have been spot on.

Compare the likes of Stevens and Willoughby with Malceski, O'Keefe and Buchanan for the "relative" values of picks in the 14-30 range versus later picks. Of course you have a better chance of picking a good player the earlier your pick is but it is far from guaranteed, so why give up someone you already know can seriously play the game?

Guess what sunshine, we were all right about Stafford. What did he do at richmond?

Half the knobs........sounds like you should come and join us or go out on a date with "marry me goodes". Could I suggest Malabar treatment plant.

My apologies Will, just read some articles as i only got back last night. Didn't realise NOG didn't front up after half time.

Ablett got injured early FFS, let's get off this 'Ablett had a shocker'. He copped a knee injury in Rd 20 or 21 of 2005 as well and I suspect he was not quite 100% in that finals series.

The bottom line is he had great year and the only player he has really struggled to contain in the past 2 seasons is Judd.

Well fancy that, he struggled against Judd. Him and every other midfielder in the comp.

You are dreaming if you think you'd get his value at the trade table, it seems even some of our supporters don't rate him highly.

Given a choice, I'd prefer to lose Jude. Not saying I want to, but Ablett is not too far behind Jude's attack on the ball (which Moore will make up for anyway), is decidedly quicker and kicks it 20 metres further.

doubt we can steal one , but great if we could.

I think we have very little choice in the trade period at the moment, doesnt seem to be much on the market outside of everitt gardiner akker and possibly tarrant
