If you watch AFL or NRL you get the full games uninterupted. IMO that is the biggest advantage of the Pay TV coverage.

The most frustrating aspect of FTA coverage is the innane cut to an ad break immediately after a goal is scored. If there is a bigger atmosphere killer than that then I don't know what it is. You also mostly miss out on any replay on FTA. Fox Footy's coverage was streaks ahead of what was offered on FTA.

Also, with 7 back in control I wonder what gimmicky self-promotions of their pathetic programming we'll get in the AFL - ala their "quiet please" ads in the tennis.

Annie you should try to be more informed of the product you criticise, given the one you are defending actually has more ads.
That is what I enjoy most about watching the footy on FOX, is the no ads in between goals etc. I don't mind ads between quarters at all, I am usually off getting a beer, a cuppa or something to eat then anyway!

We all know that FTA has more ads .... that's what keeps it free.

So they play a 30 second ad after a goal has been scored ... only in prime time!! It's amazing what you can get done in 30 seconds. If you watch a replay late at night (which is what we often have to do here in Sydney), the ads played are far less frequent and you do get more replays.

I am informed Hammo. I researched Foxtel and made an informed decision that I don't wish to pay for ads and reruns that I can get for free on FTA. I can afford Foxtel, so it's not a monetary issue. I don't really watch movies, so that's a waste. The only sport I watch is AFL - and look what happened to the AFL channel and I can watch the Simpsons and Futurama every night on CH10. For me, Foxtel is a waste of money.

How do you have time to go and get a beer?

Do you employ a beer wench at your joint?

That seems like a strange argument for having 8 games on FTA - wait up late and you get less ads!

If FTA won't show the games live then the best thing they can do for the code is to come to agreement with a broadcaster that will.

              Hammo, Hammo, Hammo!!!

THE ADS ON FTA DON'T BOTHER ME. I mute them anyway.

All I was saying is that late at night, they tend to play less ads. If I have to wait up late to watch the footy ... so be it.

Did we get 8 games "live" last year? From memory, in Sydney, we got the Friday night game at 11pm, we got a saturday arvo game, the swans on sat night (if they played), a saturday late night replay, the sunday arvo game (only if Swans), and replays on sunday night. At least, we got 4 games.

If FTA have to play 8 games per week ... BRING IT ON.

Of the 8 games per week the breakdown in Sydney was:

                Fri Night - Ch 9 ~11:30pm
                Sat Arvo 1 - Ch 10 2pm LIVE
                Sat Arvo 2 - Fox 2pm/2:30pm/4pm LIVE
Sat Night 1 - Ch 10 7:30pm/~10:30pm (early coverage only if Swans playing)
                Sat Night 2 - Fox 7:00pm/7:30pm LIVE
                Sun Early - Ch 9 1pm LIVE
                Sun Arvo 1 - Fox 2pm/2:30pm/4pm LIVE
                Sun Arvo 2 - Ch 9 ~midnight

So you had 2 games live on FTA, 3 live on Fox, 1 huge delay, 1.5 big delay, .5 small delay (the 0.5 is split for when Swans played or not).

Then of course you had all the games replayed as well.

You complain about ads and then say they are fine. Foxtel is not full of ads and reruns you can see on FTA, so you are not informed at all. In fact I'd go so far as to say you have no clue what you are talking about when you refer to Foxtel.

You cant see the reruns on FTA because fox bought all the old crap shows! Oh no!

I think you will find she is complaining about paying an upfront fee to see ads that she could see for "free".

It is rude that you pay for the priveledge of having ads on tv. Maybe if you all saved money and put it towards what was being advertised on FTA we would have the plague that is fox?

I personally hate the idea of paying for a marginal improvement in tv. Burn murdoch, burn!!

Careful how far you're prepared to go ... you could end up falling off the end!!

IN MY MOST HUMBLEST OF OPINION (if it's OK with you that I'm allowed to have one) ... Foxtel is a load of crap. I cannot justify its expense. It does nothing for me.

If you wish to read back, I only complained about ads on foxtel in that you are paying to watch the ads that get shown on FTA anyway. I do watch a bit of foxtel (all my siblings have it), and find this most annoying.

Tell me, since they started advertising on foxtel (after the initial three month no ads), did they reduce the cost of the premium you paid to watch? I would think that they should have, seeings big business was paying them to advertise. The way I see it, IN MY MOST HUMBLEST OF OPINION not only are they getting revenue from the advertisers, they also get revenue from the people who are forced to watch the ads. That's double dipping. If you're ok with that ... keep paying your premium. It's no skin off my nose.

I don't like to feed the fat cats. I don't like to pay interest on my credit card either, for the same reason. Get over it.

Yes ... ads are crap, but they do allow you to get up and have a wee break. When I watch FTA TV, I do so with the remote in my hand so that I can mute the ads. I'm sure if I had fox, I'd be doing the same.

If you're prepared to watch it, and want to pay the money to do so, kudos to you. Don't be nasty to me just because I don't agree with it. I really do try not to be nasty to you.

It's actually a backward step IMO if the broadcaster they come to terms with only has about 20-25% coverage, which I think is about the case with Foxtel.

So are you saying it is better for only 25% of the population to be able to see it live than for 100% of the population that could see it delayed on FTA? Because that's what it looks like you are saying, and that would be a backward step.

It's not a marginal improvement - it's a major one. And there are significantly less ads.
