Pay TV Deal completed - to be announced Monday...?
Originally posted by Annie Haddad The way negotiations have progressed thus far suggest to me that Ch7/10 are willing to absorb the extra $$'s. They want a minimum $55 mil or nothing. It's their right to demand it.
They can demand whatever they want, but they'll do better to do a deal.
I prefer FTA TV over pay ... I can't justify paying for commericals.
What commercials? There are none during game time.

I've just looked through all of their homepage, and there is nothing there about footy rights.

At least you get Friday and Saturday night matches at or close to live.
Try living in Sydney and saying Melbourne viewers get shafted.

Pretty hard to compare that with not getting anySwans games.
The real point is though, that the majority of Australians do not have or cannot afford to have pay TV. To put half of the matches onto a network that has 25% national coverage at best it stupid if the AFL really want to promote the game.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun. Blessedare the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

No.
I read the paper online (and ignore the advertising); and celebrity news doesn't interest me.

So you expect to get things for free?

No, I have an issue with the wasted paper it generates.
If muting the ads is the only effort required on my part for me to watch FTA TV, I'm there baby!!
I don't get pay TV because when it was first put out to the community the slogan was "why pay for ads". Suckers ... you're now paying for the ads that I can watch (should I choose) for free on FTA.
If the deal between pay TV and FTA TV falls through ... great for me ... I get 8 games a week, without having to pay for it.
If the deal goes ahead, oh well, I live in Sydney ... I'll watch what I can get and all Swans games are guaranteed live into Sydney - and that's the most important thing.

I subscribe to the AFL Record. Does that count?

Originally posted by Sanecow Not true; some ads are Foxtel exclusive, sucker!
Oooh Cow ... I wish you didn't tell me that.
That's it ... I'm getting Foxtel so I can mute THEIR ads too.

They were quite upfront in saying that ads would be introduced after the initial introduction period (I think 3 months).
If you watch AFL or NRL you get the full games uninterupted. IMO that is the biggest advantage of the Pay TV coverage.
The most frustrating aspect of FTA coverage is the innane cut to an ad break immediately after a goal is scored. If there is a bigger atmosphere killer than that then I don't know what it is. You also mostly miss out on any replay on FTA. Fox Footy's coverage was streaks ahead of what was offered on FTA.
Also, with 7 back in control I wonder what gimmicky self-promotions of their pathetic programming we'll get in the AFL - ala their "quiet please" ads in the tennis.
Annie you should try to be more informed of the product you criticise, given the one you are defending actually has more ads.
