I refer you to your previous post:

People paying for tv has a cancerous effect. It drags more and more programs onto paytv meaning that I am more likely to have to pay a surcharge to see what I used to see on FTA for free.
In this case, shows that were not backed by free to air networks were produced by Pay TV... exactly the opposite of what you are arguing.

Shows like Love My Way are critically acclaimed but deemed far too risky to be bankrolled by FTA networks.

In regards to your comment "what I used to see for free", when has FTA tv EVER shown all 8 AFL games in a weekend? That expectation was brought about by Pay TV, not FTA.

You said that Foxtel is full of ads - that's not true.
You then said that some ads are good.
You said that Foxtel is full of re-runs - that's also not true.
If I can't find something to watch on FTA I don't need to "get a life".

That you would prefer to watch just FTA or not watch TV is fine. I am not challenging those particular views - just your wrong ones above.
I also said let's agree to disagree.

My reasons are wrong only because YOU think so. To me, they are "RIGHT".

Foxtel was supposed to be "ad free" that's how they sold it to the australian public when it was first introduced. They put on "station ads" to begin with, i.e. advertising other shows on Foxtel, and now run main-stream advertising. If you want to pay for that, more power to you.

I said I mute the ads on FTA. Ad breaks are good - yes - you get a "break" to grab a drink, take a wee, belt the kids, etc.

How many times does foxtel play the same movie/show in a month ... to me that equals re-run. Didn't someone mention that sometimes they wanted to kick their tv in cause the same shows were played too often?

If you choose to pay for this ... great. It's your money, not mine.

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I don't know why anyone would be too fussed about a small ad break every 15 minutes for this exact reason. There is minimal mainstream advertising - most of it is still promos. Movies have no ads.

I don't consider playing the same shows within a relatively short period to be re-runs.

What tends to happen to documentary-type shows is they are played once in the evening, once in the early morning, once mid morning and then once in the afternoon. They then get repeated once on the weekend. This happens again anywhere from a few months to a year later. Sitcoms and regular dramas tend to get played perhaps three times per week. Movies will get played maybe a half a dozen times a week when new, reducing to only a couple over time, while replays of older movies, which you never see on TV any more, get played maybe half a dozen times in a month and then don't return for another six months to a year.

I think this is a great plus. You have plenty of opportunities to watch your shows and then are enough things that you only occasionally run out of things to watch.

If you choose to pay for this ... great. It's your money, not mine.
Which is your option and that's fine, I just don't think you criticisms are valid.

I think a more valid point would be quality shows out of the US that aren't cable tv.

By the way, I am not arguing that pay tv doesnt produce shows?!?

I wouldnt be surprised if fox simply had a bigger cheque book to produce Love My Way. If pay tv didnt exist, the show would be shown on FTA(I dont know the exact case for that show mind you).

In regards to the 8 games, if the AFL insisted in the networks showing 8 games, the FTA networks would do that. It was part of a contractual agreement that I would say was brought about due to the size of the current AFL market rather than the existence of Pay tv.

The more money you pay fox, the more tv programs they can purchase, which increases the likelihood that something I want to watch will only be shown on pay tv. That stinks.

They're valid to me, and again, that's the main thing!!

ALL my siblings have foxtel (that's six different subscriptions) ... they would die without it. They all think like you and they all think I'm a fool for thinking the way I do. They, like you, can think what they like.

Maybe I've just got better things to do!!

Partly true, but it was also due to the need of 7 & 10 to better the 9 / Foxtel bid.

The rights were for all 8 games, it's just that 9 had already made on-selling arrangements with Foxtel.

Anyhow, the previous media deal which saw all 8 games being broadcast set the benchmark for all future deals. It's unlikely such a deal would have happened without Pay TV.

There will be less Australian drama on FTA because of 7/10 have spent all their cash on the AFL

I don't know about that. There are a number of shows that have never been on FTA here and possible never would be.

There is also the chance that more people on pay TV will see a drop in price, which is something I believe has happened in the US.
