But there's a difference between me getting @@@@@@ and acting the fool - nobody gives a rats ass as long as I keep to myself - my mates will give me @@@@ for it later on, but it's never going to be newsworthy unless I do something totally out of control - drive a car, kill a couple of people, get into a public catfight and break someone's face etc. Ben Cousins getting rat@@@@ is a totally different proposition - it will make the news if he's found out and about in an inebriated state, and considering he could be on his last warning with the club, what's the point of putting himself in such a position? If he was that desperate for a bender he could have had a night in with the boys, yet chose to go out in public and get himself arrested. Place on the team/reputation/career vs night out on the grog...

Who needs to be drunk to do something stupid. The only problem with being a non-drinker is that you can always remember what you did last night.

And as I said before, lacking common sense. "Ben Cousins has blinder in lounge room" - not much of a headline is it? "Ben Cousins Arrested, Drunk at Crown" - That's better!

I'm not saying that he shouldn't go and get @@@@@@, but just to do it in better ways that aren't going to get him in trouble! Surely he values his spot on the team and/or career more than any wild night out? And if he doesn't he's probably not in any fit state to play then anyway.

But you're always going to argue no matter what...

I can't believe some people are arguing AGAINST him being a role model, get with it! famous sportsmen (and women) have been, and always will be role models, and they know this, which means they have a responsibility to the fans of the sport, especially the younger fans who are easily influenced, to set a good example, to suggest he's 'just another person drinking in public' is the voice of the naive and ignorant amongst us. It's not just the drinking, or being drunk, either, road accidents are at a shockingly high frequency in this country, and that reason alone is enough to make an example of a guy, who not only carelessly ignored the law once, but twice. This behaviour, on top of the fact he's known nation-wide, and admired by thousands of youngsters, makes it pretty clear he doesn't give a crap about the image he's putting across to aspiring future footballers.

I find it insulting that because i'm 17 that apparently i don't have any idea. I have a sister 22 and brother 26 so i think i know perfectly well about people going out and having a few too many to drink.

Don't worry about it. Anyone who thinks a 17 year old in todays world, doesn't know anything, is obviously more stupid than they're trying to make you look.

There is nothing wrong with going out on getting on the turps. However there IS a real problem with an AFL footy player who is a role model who gets so @@@@ faced and obviously something else happened for this absolute moron to get arrested for drunk and disorderly.

                          He is a tool.

So it's too much to ask to simply play a game you have a passion for?

Can't just be a footy player anymore?

People are going to say "no - if they want to play the game then they start playing knowing that they'll be in the spotlight and they have to take all that goes along with that"

I say that's politically correct bs.
                            same with actors etc
Just because the media chooses to scrutinise every move these people make doesn't make it right and it doesn't mean that they should play by the rules that people like you insist that they should obey.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

How about ones who whacks off in the bushes whilst a woman is being sexually assaulted?
