Yes, I recall him saying that quite a bit. I really couldn't agree with that, but they have definitely improved.

Monty isn't a great kick but he's a smart kick, particularly over short distances. The number of times he manages to spot a player on a lead in a crowded 50 from 10 or 15m outside is amazing.

Kirk's kicking isn't the best but, a bit like Cressa in his later years, I reckon he's learned to kick within his limitations, with the result that it is more effective than it ought to be.
Yes, neither of them are good kicks, but are smart when kicking around the ground. That's because both of them are generally smart footballers who have compensated very very well for some deficiencies in their game.

We played very well in patches and I was AGAIN impressed by Ted Richards.

Obviously the rookies are meant to play like the senior players in a regular season H&A game.

Exactly - as well, Buchy is elusive enough to make space where there often isn't any and Kirk uses his handball very effectively. It's about making the best use of what you've got.

BTW, Kirk's pass to Richards in the last qr was excellent so perhaps an indication that he has improved that aspect.

Looking online, at the top 5 stats during the 2nd term, Mathews featured in a quite few of them, inlcuding effective kicks.

Yeh but look at what he did with his possessions. The usual round the corner crap kick, hospital handpassess, kicks to the opposition etc. He seemed to have all the time in the world but just stuffed up.
