I'd hate to be a Kangaroo's fan...they're really starting to slide.

It's a bit soon to be saying that.

Yep. The kangaroos aren't where they are on the ladder because they are playing badly.

They've unluckily run into Brisbane in Brisbane and then a very good West Coast, with Geelong next week. I wouldn't write them off against Geelong next week who must be due for a loss sooner or later and the Roos were good yesterday despite going down.

It's looking more likely that if we win all 3 of our matches we'll finish 3rd and play the 2nd placed Eagles is week one

The exciting thing is that our top 4 destiny is now basically in our own hands. If we win our remaining 3 games we are 99% sure of making the top 4. We just have to hope there is a result in the Hawks/Port game this weekend. A draw will screw us over big time.

Not if we win all of our 3 games it won't matter. We will finish top 4 if we win all 3.

Which would mean fourth year in a row playing them 1st week of finals!

I'd really like to finish fourth and take on Geelong in Melbourne. Something about that match up in a big final really excites me. I doubt they would want to face us or West Coast first up.

There is a series of bizarre events that could see us winning 3 and still not making top 4.

That being, that our percentage drops (you can win games and still lose percentage) and Hawthorn, Port and West Coast all keep gaining percentage and win at least 2 out of their 3 games.

A nice touch with this result is that Sheedy's last TWO games will be against WC - both at Subi, and hopefully with him waving his jacket after both of them.

I think that anybody that has Essendon in their top 8 is mentally playing with themselves.

At the happy end of expectations: you can forget Port and West Coast. To use the indicative (if sometimes misleading) measure of +/-, the Weagles are 106 points behind us, and Port 52 points. Can't see either of them making up that gap while winning one game less than us. (Yes, the Weagles could flog Richmond and Essendon, both at home, by a combined total of over 106 points more than Sydney's margins of victory, but if they do that, would you expect them to lose to the Saints? I wouldn't.)

Hawthorn (51 points down) are theoretically possible if they flog Port Adelaide and the Dogs, we have relatively narrow R20 and 21 wins, and then just beat them by less than a kick in R22. It's still pretty theoretical.

In terms of scenarios that see Sydney winning its remaining 3 games but still missing the top 4, more likely than these teams losing one but overtaking our percentage, is that all of the non-Hawthorn teams on 48 points simply win every game:
Port Adelaide: Hawthorn (Tas), Geelong (A), Freo (H)
West Coast: Richmond (H), St Kilda (A), Essendon (H)
                          Roos: Geelong (H), Carlton, Bulldogs.

Thank god for Geelong. I actually think they'll lose one of their remaining minor round games... but not two. However, I will be backing the Weagles to go 3/3. Richmond and the Dons are theirs to lose, and despite their failure against the Saints at home in their mid-season slump, I just don't think St Kilda have the game to take them down at the pointy end of the year. If I'm right, that would mean the best we could hope for is 3rd. And an... ahem... I don't know how to say this, guys... away QF against the West Coast Eagles.

At the miserable end of expectations: we can be pretty darn sure now that 12 wins (i.e. one more) will be enough for us to make the 8. At the start of round 19, we were just half-a-game in front of 10th position, with 4 games to go. At the end of it, we were 6 points in front of 8th spot, with 3 games to go. That's an incredible drop-off beneath us. It was an absolutely disastrous weekend for those clubs gunning for the lower reaches of the 8 (excepting only Freo, who were the least threatening club from our perspective).

But if we all barrack weally weally hard for the Saints the weekend after next, and our boys do the business in the next three games, it could be Swans vs West Coast Eagles at... Telstra!!
