What better inspiration is there for a younger player than playing alongside (and under) the best and fairest.

How about seeing the bloke next to you constantly putting his head over the ball and in places human heads just shouldn't be.

Not that being a better captain about being the best and fairest, but if it were, for your arguments sake, is not a smother on the goal line to save a goal more inspiring to fellow team members than a flashy goal on the run?

You'll have people diving for their AFL History books here Annie. There are plenty of non club captain Brownlow medalists.

The Brownlow is not a leadership award....nor is tossing the coin a significant captains duty. Kirk is inspirational and deserves his captaincy for many years to come.

Brownlow Medals have nothing to do with leadership and do not entitle the winner to the captaincy of any club. Simon Black, for one, has never captained Brisbane.
