    Channel 7 Judd Deal

Channel 7 in Melbourne are saying that as part of the Judd deal, Sydney will be trading their 11th pick and possibly Jolly to Melbourne for Travis Johnston and one other Melbourne player (possibly Pettard).

I don't mind that at trade at all, especially if we can land Daniher as the f/s selection.

Johnston can carry the ball and has fantastic footskills, Pettard looked very likely as young defender/midfielfder.

I don't like the sound of that, Johnstone isn't as good as people think he is and Pettard looks alright but you can't be sure. I want us to keep our first rounder and Jolly looks likely to accept the 4 year deal so i really can't see this deal happening. Melbourne are picking up Messen from the crows so they don't need another ruckman. Channel 7 as a source isn't convincing enough, they make too much crap up.

What I heard on Ch7 said was Johnstone to Sydney, plus another Melbourne player - I didnt hear Petterd's name mentioned.

And it was said that a Swans premiership player would go to Melbourne, possibly Jolly, because of the rumours he wants to go back to Melbourne (the city that is, not the club)

I am not that keen on giving up our 1st draft pick for a player that is a bit of an under-achiever in my opinion

Yes he is. Travis would be huge for our midfield.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Someone on BF (who claims to be in the know) has been spruiking Sydney trading pick 11 for Johnstone and Miller

No mention of Jolly, and if suggestions that Meeson from Adelaide has already agreed to terms with the Dees have any basis, that would seem unlikely. It also seems clear that the Swans preferred option is to keep Jolly. Given our struggles in developing ruckmen, it would seem daft to try and trade him unless he's desperate to go.

The only way a deal involving Jolly, Pettard etc seems to make sense is if Pettard goes to the Lions, not us (he is a Queenslander) and we get Wood in return. But I can't see the Lions agreeing to a straight swap of Wood for Pettard, simply because they ought to be able to get more for Wood.

I'm not averse to the Swans giving up pick 11 if they can get a good deal as part of the Judd trading frenzy but the prospect of getting a 28 yo Johnstone doesn't excite me.

But as I posted a week or so ago, I'd give up pick 11 in a flash for Matthew Bate.

I am with Liz on this. Johnstone is 28 and his file has been stamped "danger" for many years by many clubs. Now if this bloke is such a good player why would the new Melbourne coach be happy to off load him.

I can tell you that when he was 18 he was seen as the best player in his year but it was said many clubs weren't prepared to touch him.

So you would rather us give away pick 11 who could turn out to be a superstar for a 28 year old who is clearly past it. If Melbourne are willing to off load Travis then something must be wrong..

Past it, I don't recall him ever being truly IN it. The times I have seen him play (grantedly not often) he seems to be a lazy player and not into second or subsequent efforts at all.

Johnstone is a lazy footballer and not worth pick 11 and a player. I would be disappointed if that was the deal.

You have no idea. You'd be happy if we traded pick 11 and Jolly for TJ and one of Melbourne's other bit players? No thanks! If they throw Rivers into the deal, it might be worth it.

Surely any trade that involved Jolly has to include a ruckman coming to us. I mean who is going to be 2nd ruck if Jolly goes ? There is no one.

From what I've heard Johnstone is going to WC along with picks 4 and 21 for Judd.

Johnstone is a highly talented player who has not fullfuilled his potential, 'party boy' and lack of commitment is the reason. Petterd is a highly rated youngster who would certainly go for Judd but I think Petterd plus one player and a pick is more likely direct to Weagles. Russell Robinson is a tip for the other. Melbourne let Jolly go to opt for White and Jamar, unlikely they would want him back although with Daniher gone that may well change things.

I think Judd will want things stitched up prior to trade week so a straight deal with Weagles is far more likely, round robin trades will be too hard before.
