Are you sure you don't want to throw in Goodes for good measure. Doyle is worth far more thsn that.

What if Johnstone was at Sydney in 2005 and Buchanon was looking to head north from the Demons - would you trade Trav for Buchy?

I guess i'm not qualified to answer this question because i'm a swans fan and not a demonds fan. I haven't seen enough of him. But point taken - might youtube him for some career highlights.

Borderline on that one,i'd rather keep our 2nd rndpik to pick up a good young player.

Personally I wouldn't but then I'm pretty non-plussed about Johnstone. I know that if he came he'd come closing to winning the odd game off his own boot but he's never seemed to really be fit enough to do justice to his talents.

But mostly what puts me off is his age - I don't have anything against trading modestly for a 28yo but I don't think the age profile of our list can take it. Monty is one of those players - if he sticks around that long - who can carry the team when the current crop of 30 yos (and Kennelly) all depart in the next 2 or 3 years.

Monty's 2005 and 2006 seasons were wonderful. He's the player most likely to dart away from a pack with the ball under his arm, and he is able to pinpoint short passes into the forward 50 like absolutely no-one else in our team.

Sorry, what was I thinking, but it's worth a try.

Impossible to tell because one knows different things and forms different attachments to players you see every week. I do know that Johnstone wasn't BOG in the 4th quarter of the 2005 Grand Final.

Few Melbourne fans seem to be that bothered about the prospect of Johnstone leaving. Admittedly a lot of the discussion around him as trade bait arose when they thought he'd help them secure The Groin. But I didn't get the impression that many would miss him much, even while acknowledging his classy skills.

All true and he had a great game at Manuka against the Demons just before his suspension. I wonder if there isn't something happening behind the scenes though. His omission from the finals seemed inexplicable - particularly in hindsight.

It would be about the only close call I can think of with our midfielders, but would probably do it.

B1, McSpaz or Noggy, in a heartbeat.

Interesting that Johnstone didnt even make the Top 10 in Melbourne's Best and Fairest...I know he missed a few games (as did Russell Roberston who did make it into their Top 10) but I would suggest that this is a comment that he underperforms against the expectations of the club

SEN reports that Judd is expected to announce Carlton as his club of choice later today.

Pies hve confirmed they're out of the race on SEN - Gary Pert has said Judd told them they're out of the race

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
